Hi, I'm Strype and I'll be your guide in the Official "Electric Fans FTMFL" Thread

These days there are many Electrical Fans to chose from... But they all suck monkey balls. For instance, you could buy the cheap arse Autozone 16" fan or dual 10" fans- but they won't work if you have air conditioning.

Now that you've spent $100 on those an thrown away the boxes, go buy a 94-95 Taurus E-Fan for $120. This fan blows... Hard. It's a really great fan. So strap it on with push thru straps from Advance. Now wait a couple of months and watch the pretty neon green stuff flow from where the straps ate through your brand new radiator.

Still a glutton for punishment? Me too!!!!!!11

Next, straight wire the fan. Watch the smoke bellow out from where th power and negative wire fused themselves together from too much voltage after the O'reilly fusey thingy with 4 prongs shorts out.

Extra Credit:

Part A) Now that you're about ready to take a .40 caliber GLOCK to the front of the car... Put a $50 Thermostat on the car so that it comes on at the right temperature. Then watch the same fusey thingy blow.

Part B) Listen to you friends tell you that it will be okay to jump past fusey thingy with a wire. Get half way down the street and you should smell smoke. Look at pretty melted temperature control.

Now go spend another $70 on a fan clutch and replace.

Mount the thermostat sensor in the heater supply tubing using some sweat solder fittings from Home Depot or Lowes.

For the approx. $320 or so you spent on just the fan/temp part of it, you could've bought a real electric fan ( Flex-a-Lite ) and called it a day, right?

I did it for $110. $35 taurus fan + $75 spal controller I got off ebay. It works great and cools better than a flex a lite. I also made mounts for mine so I wouldn't have to use those crappy push through straps.

My cheap-o 16" Autozone fan's been working just dandy for me for over two years, now. Coupled with a 3-core copper/brass radiator and a 180* T-stat, I've been through a couple of nearly 120* temp days last summer and never went above 210* in traffic; the rest of the year, I'm sitting right at or just under 190*.

I'm running mine through an old-school starter solenoid with constant-on-with-key-on wiring, and push-through straps ... y'know, 'cause I'm just all hardcore ghetto cheap and lazy like that. :D I do intend to get around to rigging up better hangers for it to replace the push-through straps, though. One thing at a time.

Someday, I might break down and hunt for a Taurus or other similar fan and a DCC controller, but it's just not in the funds right now, and it works well enough for the time being. When funds allow and the true need arises for better equipment, it shall be done.

No. The point here is that if it will go wrong for any of us on this site... It will go wrong for me.

Relays. I've been through 3 of them. Then I rewired the whole thing. So after the car almost caught fire last weekend I decided enough is enough. I may do the fan again when I tear the car down for the motor build. But for right now, enough is enough  crapola

To heck with you people and your happily working E-fans :fuss:
