The service manager left at message first. So I decided to talked to him to ask some more questions and to reconfirm. So here is what else I found out: The service manager sounded like he knew the facts. He even said the parts that are out there now, won't be the same ones that will be included in the TSB fix. I guess they have more parts to replace then the ones mentioned in this thread. I also found out that it will only be 2 to 3 weeks now. The engineer said to tell me it would be 3 to 4 weeks just incase there was a delay. And he said not to bring it in with an after market shifter. That sucks!!! So I'm hoping that by the first week of May we should have this crap resolved.

If you are smart you will take it off before you go in.

Update

The car shifts much better now, no grind or clashing. 2nd gear is a little tight to get into, but I will give it time. The true test will be when the weather gets cold again before I say it's 100% fixed.

I also asked what happens when/if a TSB comes out and there are additional parts. The dealership service manager said they would take it apart again to add any new parts that come out. I am very happy with dealership on this trip. I think they were playing dumb the last 3 visits because there was no fix at that point...."it's normal."

For everyone that has been fighting with their dealerships, I suggest you go there with the parts list, make them call their tech line. The tech line will confirm the parts and hopefully authorize the work.

Good Luck

Gear Grinding

We bought a brand new 03 GT vert in November of 03 ... noticed the grinding from first to second and now occasionally from second to third.

Ford dealership says, and I quote my invoice, " This is a common ocurrance in 1st to 2nd shifts on Mustangs built with the TR3650 Tremmec transmission. Spoke with Josh at Ford Technical hotline he informed that Ford engineering is aware of this concern and that they are still investigating. No repair should be attempted at this time. If this concern resolves to a fix procedure they will let us know."

Dang ... I've wanted a Mustang since I was 18 years old (now 41) and it has an inherent problem that Ford doesn't care to fix?!

I thought that a shifter, being aftermarket, couldn't void a warranty on the tranny. Has Ford been able to prove that the problem is caused by the aftermarket shifter? If not, then why take it off cause I thought the law says aftermarket parts can't void warranty's. Please enlighten me. Thanks.

It's a scapegoat for them, but if they go that route they have to prove it which means you getting a layer and all that and most people aren't willing to do that.

Hello All. I had the same problem and on March 23 took my Mustang into the Ford dealership FOR SAME cold 1 -2 GRIND after 3500 miles. I purchased new 2003 GT Convertible in April 2003. They replace the folllowing parts 3R3Z-7124 BA 3R3Z-7107 -AA F7TZ19554-AA (GASKET?). So far it is fixed but only 400 miles on the new parts I did not see this threat until March 30. Dealership service was great (
thank God). My first Mustang was a 64 1/4 289 four speed convertible and never shifted like this(30 years ago) and it was a hand me down which was well beat, rotted floor pans etc. My father made me sell it cause he did not want any junk cars in the driveway as I attended college.

anybody have the number for the latest TSB? I talked to the guys at the dealership i work at and had him run a tsb for my car and nothing came back about the hard 1-2 shift or the syncro's going bad. He said to find out a tsb number then maybe they can find something out. I drove my car today and it seems like its just getting worse.. I want to get this fixed asap.. tracks are opening up and I want to get it fixed before I run it at the track and possibly blow it up or something.

Well, I just called our Ford Dealer today. I have an appointment to take it in on Thursday. They told me that they currently have an 03 waiting for a new transmission. I was told that if they can replicate the problem (which they did the last time I took it in) that they would order me a whole new transmission. He said that it is the same one they are putting in the 04s. I thought the 04s were having the same issues!!

yeah, I hope something comes up soon, My friend who has a 2003 v6 has the same 2-3 grinding problem so obviously this isn't just me being hard on my car. I can live with the stiff 1-2 when its cold.. but the 2-3 completely grinds!!! I'm going to talk with the techs at my dealership and see what they think i should do.

Took mine in yesterday. I have the 1st to 2nd problem when cold as well as hard to get it in reverse.

They had no idea about any TSB, but the flush and refilled the fluid. They also adjusted and tightened a few things.

Seemed to shift better this morning... but I will have to see how it goes in the long run.

Remember that it seems to be temperature dependant. If you bring it to the dealership for them to test drive make sure it is cold day and you leave it overnight.
