Thanks for the Link , that helped alot!

I picked the car up today , I took the tech for a ride in today and sure enough they heard the grinding to second gear. Which really earks me cause if they drove it they would have heard that.
Anyway I am dropping it off again on Jan 3rd. I showed the tech the TSB and they are ordering the parts.

Sux it was there all week and they couldnt reproduce what I did in 5 mins time

Droped it off on monday for the 1-2-3 shift problems.
Which he told me that day there was a TSb for the shift problems.

I talked to the service advisor today , He told me they adjusted the clutch and mentioned a TSB for that ? which I thought was odd seeing as it only grinds when cold.

Anyone have a copy of the TSB? I seen it on a forum before but cant locate it again
Sure would like to go see him Friday with a copy in hand.

MINE 2 (literaly!)

I blew a 3rd gear synco in my 01 Gt two days out of stock warranty Ford left me hanging and my down payment on a new 04 gt was cheaper than the tranny fix (plus I would have done the cluth up and flywheel) so I stripped the 01 traded it in and I have only 3,700 miles and already a 2nd to 3rd gear clunk cold or hot! Bolth cars are Windsors and bolth have the 3650.

Ford called me today and said that there is a National back order on the rebuild kit and that unoffically will take about 14days to get in but up to 30days!!! He said to drive it even with the gear clash in 3rd. Im going to make sure to get everything in writing when I go to pick it up.

I asked him If I could put on an aluminum d/s or an aftermarket shifter in the mean time and he said no "dont muddy up the waters" just in case they need to replace the entire transmission.

3650 troubles

Hello everyone!
This is my first post here and im hoping someone can help me. I recentley traded in my 91' notchback for an 2001 cobra and i wish i had found these threads before i did. When i got the car last month it had a notchy shift to it that i told was normal. OK i can live with that, but now i find the car is hard to put into gear. getting the car into first is the hardest and 1st to second is rough. It does not grind but rather feels like something is blocking it. This is a problem that comes and goes. I drove the car yesterday and it shnifted like butter but other times i just want to put it back in the garage because it is more of a chore to drive than it is fun. I know there was a tsb for these trannys but my car is no longer under warrenty. I have read about some fixes such as changing fluids and reducing levels. If anyone has had these fixes work for them please let me know or if u have a nother suggestion THANKS!

Hi Everyone,
This is my first post here -- I usually hang out on some other Mustang boards, but was browsing this thread and thought I'd chime in with my experience. I just had the TSB service for the 1-2 shift done on my 2002 Mustang GT -- it was finished two days ago.

The TSB work on my pony made a really big difference. The gear shift slides into place now and there is no grind or rub at all, just a single click as it goes through the gate. It definitely feels more solid and more precise.

The kit for the TSB is, according to the service manager, a lot more than "just a synchro kit". He said that at one point he went into the shop and saw the tranny on the stand. Basically the only part left on it was the main shaft. He claims the kit included a ton of new parts including: some new gears, new synchros, new heavier forks, new "clutches" (?) and all the seals/gaskets and some other parts I didn't recognize the names of. It took their head tech a full day to rebuild it. Not including pulling out and replacing the transmission in the car. It's apparently only the second one they've done.
He said that except for the main shaft and the housing it could be considered a new transmission. He showed me their paperwork and the total DEALER cost was north of $1400. So I figure it would've been between $1800 and $2000 if I had to pay for it.

Cobra2798,
Do you have trouble with reverse too? You might have a worn clutch cable or worn clutch disc and not fully releasing the clutch.

I had the same problem when I put my new quadrant in. I had to adjust my firewall adjuster to take up some slack.

Twisted,
At times i have trouble with reverse, but this problem is random. i changed the fluid and dropped the levels and this seems to have helped a little. not having a hard time shifting as often as i did but i have only put on about 100 miles since doing so. i am told that u will notice a big difference after 400-500 miles after changing the fluids. im praying this will work. there are times when it is still hard to shift more not as much. I also find that if i let my rpm's dropp alittle inbetween shifts it goes into gear easier but i shouldnt have to do this on a high performance car. If u have anymore advise please let me know! thanks!

From my experience, the fluid change and level didn't help, even after 1000's of miles. It might help if you condition is borderline, but mine was severe.

Cobra2798,
I had the TSB done last spring, that fixed my problem, not 100% though. The quadrant was done over the winter.

I guess you can just look at the clutch cable as it goes into the quadrant and make sure it isn't too loose. Also if you have a stock quadrant you can adjust it there by pulling up on the pedal. If that doesn't take up all the slack, you need to push the "paw" out of the way and move it a couple of teeth.

Twisted,
I checked the clutch quadrent and there is very little play in the pedal. the cable also looks fine but im just eyeing it, still i ordered the steeda cable and quadrent, and firewall adjuster just to stiffen things up because that quadrent is pretty cheesy feeling. I cant believe it but i think the fluid change and level drop actually worked because the more i drive the car the smoother it is shifting. I drove it today and it was flawless, i just wonder how long it will last and im scared to launch it hard fearing the worst(cant afford a new tranny!)

Not sure where you are from, but the warmer weather may also be a factor. Glad to hear that it is getting better. There is nothing worse then feeling that grind everytime you shift.
