A squeel is a classic trow out bearing problem sign- hardly a trans proble. Could be Ford got them the cheapy route.

3200???? That's insane. It should not have cost anywhere near that to fix. You could have bought a T56 for that easily.

So if I am buying a used GT and it's beyond the 36k mile/3 year warranty period, and there is a grind, I shouldn't get it? Would most owners with this problem address it and have documentation, or is buying a used GT a shot in the dark when it comes to the tranny?

lol thats not even the funny part, i bought an aftermarket warranty that said they covered "Everything but the clutch" and when the inspector looked at the tranny he said "its been raced were not covering it"

That pisses me off so much. "It's been raced." I should go out and buy a ford fivehundred and beat the living **** out of it, break every part and make them fix it under warranty.

Dealers use that alot knowing 99% of people don't don't have the time, money, or patience to to get a lawyer and fight it. If they deny it for abuse and you get an attorney they have to prove the abuse. I've been through it and won but was without my car for a year.

Since the fix I've had about a year and 15-20k miles of no problems until about a month ago. Sometimes, mostly when hot my tranny will crunch going into 4th. Not really grind, it goes in but it just crunches sometimes, mostly when its real out and I've been driving it awhile. My freind/mechanic says it seemed like a synchro.
It goes in to the dealer next week so we'll see what happens.

OK I'm new here and did not read all the pages for this post and not sure if any other person answerd this but i'm a Ford Tech and this problem is known by Ford and there is a fix for it. I must of rebuild about 10 3650's the only one in the shop that is willing to do them. There is a Ford TSB for them and a kit to replace all the syncros and 1's and 2nd gear. Comes out good.

From a tech point of view, would you frown on doing the TSB if a car were to come in with an o/r mid pipe?

I had an o/r x pipe and catback and the dealer didn't say anything. Exhaust is a non warrantable item besides the manifolds and they'd have a hard time proving that an o/r x-pipe and mufflers caused the tranny to go out.

That is what I was thinking, but you how "logical" dealers can be.

I have aftermarket exhaust and had no issues from the dealer. The only problem I had was that they had to remove a portion of it and reinstall it .. when they were done, my tailpipes were a little off center ... which of course they said wasn't their fault. They told me that if it wasn't aftermarket exhaust, that they would have replaced all of the exhaust system to make sure the tail pipes came out straight. Somehow, I find that hard to believe. Boy, was I pissed when I saw the tail pipes. I am still waiting to make sure my tranny is okay before I have the exhaust fixed.

We know about the TSB. Many of use have had the TSB performed on our cars. The initial reason for the thread was the dealers were telling us it is normal. Then once the TSB came out, many people were having trouble getting the dealers to admit the problem was there on their vehicle and perform the TSB.

The TSB did work, but not 100%. Some of us are still having 2nd gear hang/clash/grind when cold or first driving.

well to tell you the truth i have no idea if my car has the T-3650 or a T-45, but i have an 01 gt with a 5spd manual. I can't shift into 1st while moving at all and I just burned out my synchro into 3rd gear this last weekend. it now grinds like a son-of-a-****** into 3rd. I guess i'm lucky tho cuzz I have 80k miles on my car now and this is the first major issue i've had. :-/
