The guy at Jegs told me you have to run the closed breather filter, the one that is metal and you cannot see the filter.... So that's the kind I have..

you have any idea why you would need a closed breather? And is there going to be a difference between the two?

this is so you don't have to have that stupid little tube to the intake pipe, right? i'm working on PVC one now, and was wondering what to do about that.

I dunno the difference. All i know is that my car had the open one before and it stalled, and this new one it didn't. I think it has something to do with the vacuum seal....

But the Jeg's guy is really knowlegable so i trust him enough...+ for $8.99 fixing a huge problem I had was good enough for me

Would you happen to have a picture or a part number for the commpletlely sealed cover? All i can find is the kind that are open.

All I know is that for a long time, I have read that those open type filters were not good with our cars. I just went out and bought a new Ford factory one. I agree ... something about the vacuum and loss of PCV function or something. I'm sure there is some way to overcome the issues with using a filtered breather - but I am not sure what to do!

Part # 720-2056 at Jeg's

If you go to any parts store you will see these filters. Not like they are uncommon.

Scroll up one post Viper, i posted a pic.

The problem I had was when changing through gears, mostly D to R in my auto, it would stall, usually while backing, and not giving it gas. It causes a vacuum leak somehow...dunno.

No it's a breather. It has little holes on the bottom side that are not shown in the pic. I thought that myself...

It's not a "screw-in" type though. Just pushes in.

No not at all, it stays in pretty well once you get it in there....

Actually, if you can find the same one I have in a "screw in" type I would recommend it, just because it would make things easier.

I believe it was 7-8$.
