i got a new 5.0 motor for my 1990 mustang and i want to use ams oil synthetic. what viscocity is recomended for a street / strip car. the motor is all stock, port polished E7 heads and gt40 intake. Is there anything i can do to prevent the rear main seal to start leaking, because i know its coming.

crane cams is the company that recommends diesel oil for break-in. They recommend a couple brands, Delo-400 being one of them. I just used the Delo-400 to break in my solid flat tappet 347, and it broke it great without any problems. I have actually heard that it's best to run the diesel oil all the time, and that's what I plan on doing. It's 15W-40, but my engine is setup with loose bearing clearances, so it's a good idea for me anyway. Costs a lot more, but worth it IMO.

Hell I ran Castrol GTX for 2 years and this year ive been using Mobil 1 Full Syn.

I have always used the Mobil 1 filters, bigger and heavier than almost anything out there lol

I did buy a couple cases of Valvoline VR-1 though.

I've been using Castrol GTX in all my vehicles for many years and never had an oil problem and never heard of anyone ever having a problem because of it so I will continue with it. In a motor that is new or has a bunch of money in it I would have to recommend Synthetic Oil though w/ Motor Craft filter. Does anyone run synthetic oil with lucas ?

My G/F just bought a brand new Jetta, I was reading through the Owners Manual and it actually calls for 5W-40 Diesel Oil even though it is gas powered.

I just switched to Valvoline full synthetic. Anybody have any experience with this oil?

Its a group 3 oil like castrol syntec, mobil 1 and pennzoil platnium. It will be fine, they're still better than regular oil. I personally run mobil 1 in both of my cars, 0W40 Euro formula in the Audi and 10W30 in the Mustang.
