I've been noticing my 99 vert is going through oil. I don't see any smoke, and there are no leaks, so I'm guessing it is burning a small amount. I assume I should start with a new PCV valve?

What's next after that?

my cars been doing this too, i think next oil change im going to a 10w30 synthetic.

I use Mobil 1 and have never had any loss. I wasn't watching too closely, since I never lost oil before. I started noticing a ticking noise and checked right before my last oil change (about 4-5000 miles and was down 2 quarts. I changed oil and 1500 miles later I'm down a half-quart. My concern is mainly because it never used ANY oil before...

 if you engine stop your car at high rpms that creates a vacuum causing oil from the pcv to be sucked out and back into your intake manifold. I'm willing to bet it's not burn off or any leak or crap like that. Your engine oil is being reintroduced into your intake making your valves dirtier and the loss of oil.

i was told from jiffy lube, dealer's, and stang forum people that 1qt between oil changes is about right. anyting more and its time to do some investigation. i would go easy route and start with the PCV valve. i now you said you dont see any smoke but have you had some one stand behind you as you rev?

the 4.6L is notorious for using a little oil, not a big deal. If you lose 1 qt. every 3000 miles that is not much at all considering if you lost 1 drop of oil every time just one of the pistons fired cruising at 70mph you would lose a quart a mile :(
don't worry too much about it, just check it more often. there are Many healthy +150k mile 4.6l on the road today that have used a little oil from a young age.
