 decided to change the oil in my gt and noticed that who ever put my oil filter on put it on super tight. well after 20min. of fighting with it i get it off put the new filter on hand tight start the car and noticed that oil was leaking from the filter like it wasn't tight enough. so i tighten it has tight has i could with my hands i don't have an oil wrench but it still drips when i get on the gas.. should i go buy an oil wrench and really tighten it down, but i was always told its bad to over tighten a filter.. any advice would help thanx:shrug:

remove it and return it to the place of purchase for an exchange and install the new one and see if that cures it i have seen a few filters with defects and some straight from the factory with holes in them. i have a friend that works at an oil change buisness and from time to time he will show me filters with defects as yours may have....also ensure the filter base where the gasket meets is clean and gasket from old filter did not stick to base....list the filter type and part number could also be the wrong filter. make sure you install a motorcraft FL1A oil filter.

pull the filter off, I would almost bet u 20 bux, the last oil filter o-ring stuck to the block!!! It dosent seal really well with 2 orings stacked on each other, ive done it many times lol.

I'll throw my $20 in as well. I can't tell you how many times I've seen this happen in my 20+ years in the car business.

and never tighten it more than your hand will tighten it...I always look at the old filter to make sure the old gasket came off (and look at the block). I also put oil on the new seal to make help it from sticking to the enging the next oil change

IT might still have the previous ring on there as mentioned. Also, if the old filt was tight....let the car run almost to operating temp, then crack it loose. Works every time! Let the car cool before draining oil, it can burn a little.
