The stock oil gauge in my 94 Cobra is starting to go crazy. I replaced the oil pressure sending unit, thought that fixed it for a week but soon after it started to jump all over again. It starts off 3/4 then maybe to 1/4 to 1/2 to back up to 3/4 again. could the wire that goes on the oil pressure sending unit go bad? I took out the gauge cluster and check out the plug and cleaned then connecters but still no luck. What I am getting to is I hope it is not my oil pump, and just the factory gauge messing up. Thanks for any help.

Im almost 100% sure that its the wire and not the oil pump. The stock oil press gauge is a dummy light and reads normal as long as you have like 5 psi of oil, its not supposed to move at all. If its jumping around, then the wire mai be getting pinched somewhere and grounding out or something. Maybe find which wire it is on the cluster plug, cut it and run a new wire from it to the sender, just to check.

+1!:nice:

Toss a mechanical gauge on real quick and check it. You can get a cheapo mech gauge for 10 bucks at the parts store and just install it in the engine bay for 10 minutes.

Of course, installing decent gauges in the cockpit is always nice, but it sounds like you might not want that.

You could use your meter to check the output from the sender to see if it jumps around (if not, but the gauge goes nuts, that suggests the gauge itself or the power and/or ground to the gauge).

Good luck.
