Everytime I pull my upper intake (Edelbrock Perf.) I have oil in it. Would this have anything to do with the PCV valve? Also would this oil in my upper intake travel down through and cause detonation at startup? This is the only time there is detonation. About 4 times as soon as I start up but after that there is no more. Im really having a hard time with this. ANY help is greatly appreciated.

what does the detonation sound like? It might not be detonation you are hearing.

blow by (ring seal) can allow some oil to get into the intake.

Good luck.

sounds more like bottom end knocking, not detonation (I think you would be the only guy in history to get detonation on a cold motor at start up. Detonation usually requires leanness, heat, etc).

Good luck.

My old Edelbrock performer sucked oil like crazy. When I put the Explorer lower on with my KB the oil consumption went way down. The Explorer lower has a huge oil baffle with drain ridges. The Performer has a puny baffle, when I removed my Performer lower I noticed that the baffle was bent such that the oil would run towards to PCV valve. The guy that installed my Performer just slapped the baffle on out of the box.

One thing I did to reduce the consumption was to put a restrictor in the line from the valve cover to the TB that had a 1/16" hole in it. See:

It goes in the tube that connects to the TB.
