Oil life is short?!

I have a 2010 Shelby GT 500 and encountered the same Problem what I found
was the oil life monitor takes the date into consideration. I put my car away with 60% life left on the oil. When I got it out in the spring it had zero life left. So I had the oil changed at the dealer. Put the car away again for several weeks and guess what, the oil life was way down again. My adviced is to forget the monitor and watch the odometer.

Ok, as we all know, the oil life monitor bases it’s reading from our driving habits. Do you know if the dealer reset the oil life after the first oil change? Just wondering…

Yeah, they definitely reset it @ 3000 miles. I had them show me how. The oil life was @ 0% at the time, and yeah I think it was exactly 6 months since I had it changed the first time. I think the 6 month time thing is what's setting it off, and not the miles. I'm assuming they reset it when I bought it, so it makes sense that it told me 6 months later to get my first change, which just happen to coincide with it turning 3000 miles. Sounds like I'll just reset it in 6 months, then change my oil after 6 more and reset it then too.

Also, everyone keeps talking about driving habits. I don't think that's part of my issue, as I've been averaging around 24-25 mpg.

Oil life update:

Just had my oil changed at the dealer last week. Mobil 1 and a FRPP filter. They reset the oil live indicator on Thursday. By Sunday, the indicator said "95%".

How in the F do I go down 5% in 3 days?!

Really, I understand it to read several points of information concerning engine operation. Starts/stops, cold driving, highway vs city, hotrod vs easy.....and so forth. I would not get wrapped up in the % as it is just an indicator......it is not to live or die by. I would bet that most people change their oil well before the 50% mark comes around.

I just changed mine a few miles back. Had 4950 miles on the car and it was almost 2 qts. low....dang new cars. Life said 61%...... I will change every 5000 or so with no concerns.

I would suggest to let it run its course, only check it when you are ready to change the oil again and see what it says. If for some reason it does expire before the next change, I believe it will flash in the message window.

So I flashed my car back to stock and brought it in to the dealer today. They reflashed the PCM with the TSB update. (They also fiddled with my rear axle breather valve issue).

Of course, they didn't reset my oil life back to 100% (I had to do that)...as my oil change was last week..and it now reads 91%.

Now I just have to check the strategy code to see if it's changed. If it hasn't, then I will reload my 93 tune and be on my way. If they did, then I have to get new tunes emailed to me.

I will keep you guys posted on the oil life monitor and if it actually reads accurately.

Please do. I'm going to get an oil change probably next month (I have a free oil change voucher that expires then), so I was thinking of having this TSB performed. But if it doesn't actually change anything, I won't bother.

Just shy of 2000 miles and ours showed 67% life left.... 2000 miles is far enough for me to run break in oil, so I changed it yesterday. I was kind of surprised at how dark the oil was.... it looked pretty clean on the dipstick, but not so much when I drained it.

So I reset the oil life indicator today to 100% after the TSB update (dealer forgot to).

So far, it still says 100%. As I stated last week, within 2-3 days the oil life went down 5%...so I will check it periodically this weekend.

Before I took the car in to the dealer, I had to reflash the car to stock, as I had a Bama 93 race tune on it. While I was in there, I wrote down the strategy code and the PCM code, in the event those changed and I had to get new tunes mailed to me.

Those codes were the same and did not change. Especially the PCM code...has me scratching my head. If they updated the firmware shouldn't that number change?

I loaded the 91 performance tune after I got home today...and it loaded fine. I will test it tomorrow (with 93 octane in the tank).

So I called American Muscle, and they think the strategy code should have changed if the computer was updated. I called the dealer and talk to my service guy (who prolly doesn't REALLY know...) and he said "if only the oil life indicator was updated and not the rest of the computer...the code would not change."

The oil life is down 1% from yesterday. They said to monitor this over the next few days as I have to go back to the dealer next week to get a new axle valve vent thingy (for my leaky axle issue!).

I installed the AM 91 performance tune last night and drove it to work this morning (in the rain). Can't really tell much of a difference yet, other than 6th gear at 50mph doesn't seem to pull as urgently when I poke the gas.

When I have my AM 93 race tune loaded...if you just jab the throttle in any gear, the car would move out pretty good. It's possible...that I was thinking of 5th gear, but I'm pretty sure 6th gear had a little more pep to it.

When I was driving along in 5th at about 45-50, if I give the gas 2 inches, it would move out like I was in 4th. Pretty cool.

I would say that the 91 tune (loaded now) is not as responsive as the 93 tune, but I've only had it on the car for one day. I'm gonna drive this tank out (which has 93 gas in it)...and see if it offers me better mpg. And of course, I need to beat on it a little to really see where the performance is with this tune.

Either tune is much better than stock. Just the torque curve alone and throttle response for city driving was worth it to me. Just give the gas a little poke and the car will pass the guy in front of you very easily. Honestly, I have yet to go full throttle 1, 2, 3 in this car yet. I think I'd need lots of room in front of me.
