Ok, so I changed the spark plugs on my daily driver on tuesday. When I pulled them, I noticed most of them had oil on them. Some had quite a bit more then others. The motor has about 92000 miles on it. A picutre of the plugs is available here:

Yes there are only 6 plugs. This is on my 2000 V6. I'm posting here because I'm quite sure you guys can give me excelent advice.

I have already had to replace the rear main seal on this motor because it was leeking. I am concerned that the rings had excessive wear between the time that I noticed the oil leek and the time I was able to fix the seal. I added oil to it as often as possible but the leek was rather severe and for the 3 or 4 days before I actually changed the seal out it was pointless to add oil to the motor because it would almost instantly leek out anything over 3 quarts.

My next step is to check the compresssion on the cylinders, but I've gota get a compression tester before I can do that. I have also noticed white smoke on startup, altho not all the time, which started about a week or two before I changed the plugs.

Any advice on what this sounds/looks like along with what else I should be doing/looking for would be most appreciated.

Edit: Forgot to tell you guys that I was 1 quart low on oil as well.

The pass. plugs look fairly good, but the driver & front plugs look a little dark; the broken plug looks a little dark as well.
There could be a number of problems: rings/walls worn, excessive clearance in the valve stem guides, bad valve seals, or the PCV could also be clogged causing too much pressure build-up which can force oil and vapors past guides/rings into combustion chamber. You're on the right path w/the leakdown test. Get that complete and share the results to better help diagnose the problem/cure.

Have you checked for a oil leak from the valve cover gaskets? The oil could run down the surface of the head and collect down in the depression in the head where the plugs are. I'm not sure but I would bet this engine didn't have gaskets when it was built, probably just RTV sealant.

Since it appears to be on one side, it doesn't seem like it would be your rings. I guess we'll know after your leak down test. I'd pull the valve cover on the side that's fouling and check your valve seals/guides. You might get lucky like I did. I replaced all of the valve seals and problem went away, but it is a '67 that sat for a long time.

So you ran it for a few days without oil?

NO WAY. I ran if for a few days when it had only about 3 quarts of oil in it. The leek was so bad that if I filled it up to the 5 quart capacity then by the time I drove to school and back home it was already back down to around 3 quarts.

I am going to check the valve covers tonight, my friend sugested that earlier today. I'm quite sure that this motor has those reusable type of valve cover gaskets made of metal with the rubber seal in the middle. Also this would not explain why I am geting white smoke out of the tail pipe on cold starts some times.

Look at the pic again, its fouling on both sides. The drivers side is just worse. That pic was taken about 1 1/2 or 2 days after they had been siting on the paper towl so the oil driped down onto the towel from gravity+time.

I borrowed my friends compression tester and I'm going to get on that as soon as possible. Crap like this NEVER happens during the summer or winter break. Its always during crunch time.... if I ever find that Murphy guy I'm gonna whoop his arse.
