Hi, everyone I recently noticed my 88 saleen oil pressure guage is acting up after changing my battery and getting my ac recharged. It has started to flutter go up and down and back up at idle. But sometimes stays normal. I was told to disconnect the wire in the sensor and see what it does as well as ground it. And it goes dead when unplugged and stays steady when connected to the batter's negative terminal.

I was then told that it should have a pressure switch and not a sensor. When I asked for the sensor it came up as that for the 88. And never heard about it being a switch for this year. Does it call for a switch or a sensor? Qnd lastly do my symptoms sound like I need to replace the oil pump or the sensor?

It's a factory 88 saleen cluster.

There's a low oil level switch, and a pressure sensor.

Sensor is on drivers side front of block just ahead of the first cylinder. Looks like a small bell. I'd remove the wire, and clean up the contact area and see if that results in a better connection.

If that fails, replace it. It's pretty cheap

When in doubt, install a t fitting and a mechanical pressure gauge, I use an Autometer electric gauge.
