I'm putting a 1974 302 in my 66 and the oil pan has the 2 drain screws and the pan is hitting the power steering cylinder. Can I take the old oil pan off the orig.289 and bolt it right up or can I flip the one I have on it now?I was also wondering if a 74 302 is much diff. than the earlier ones? Thanks

You should have taken the oil pan and pickup off your old engine and put it on the new one to begin with. Externally, 289s are the same as 302s.

Yep, they are a direct fit. Just swap them.

I suspect that the oil pump pickup tube/screen will need replaced too. Either get a new one (66 style) or see if you can clean up your old one.

Not sure how your 74 got a late model pan or what the application was, but you can swap, and yes, you will probably need to use the pickup screen too.

2 drain plugs sounds like a fox pan. I'm not sure when the fox platform started, but a 74 should have the same pan as a 66.
