Do i have to change my oil pan since i went with a 331 stroker. I have heard people say no an some say yes.

Was wondering if its ok to use the stock oil pan for right now

You'll be just fine if you're using a standard volume pump. If you use a high volume pump, you'll suck the stock pan dry, so that's why an aftermarket pan is needed.

I don't notice any problems with my stock oil pan and I have a 331 with high volume oil pump. But then again the car is babied and not driven much

thank you guys very much. This place has been so helpful on many things when it has come to questions i have had.

StademS3 what kind of Rod bearings did you use for your crank an rods. I am running into a problem with the rod journals being a odd size an only thing we can think of is grinding them down a bit so we could use some 40 under.

There's a ton of discussion on this point. I've heard peeps claim HV pumps drain the pan dry and that they don't. Others say the relief valve in the pump will just send the excess oil back to the pan without running it through the engine, so you can't run the oil pan dry. I'm not going to argue for either side, but you can read this thread for arguments pro or con.

sgarrelts01, I would say that unless your engine is seeing high RPM's for a long time you really won't need the extra benefit a HV pump gives. Nor will you need a bigger oil pan. If this will be a race-only car which spends most of its time running in the high RPM's, then the extra flow and pan sounds like good insurance even if they may not be needed.

Hey Adam, are you running that 351 yet? If so, are you using a swap pan now or did you just modify the stocker? My so called "swap pan" turned out to be a stock unit, the guy that sold me the engine was using shims in the engine mounts to clear the steering rack. I was thinking of notching the oil pan but I'm guessing a swap pan would save me a lot of pain and heartache. Opinions?

Apparently my ex-husband made that mistake.

You're going to have to consult a machinest on that. You can turn the crank down to .040. No problem doing that.
