Oil plus is leaking help!

Oil plug is leaking help!

My oil plug is leaking and i need some advice. The threads were stripped on the lower oil plug so I put a new kind that self tapped it and then has another plug screw into it. I think its called a piggyback or something. Anyway my problem is that its leaking around BOTH of the plugs. I used hard seals not soft ones. What should i do?

go get some orings at hardware store to seal the gap could use some silicone rvt type sealant around the oring AFTER TIGHTEND so as not to get any in the pan..not the best Idea though, the soft oring will work well like the ones supplied when you buy new panplug..hardware store or parts store will carry an assortment of orings, try to get a flat style if possible..and as you've learned do not over tighten the plugs...many of us have and it's a pain in the .ss.

on the part that bolts into the pan (that stays fixed always), i dont think putting sealant around just the very base of it (so as not to succept the oil in the sump to it), that would be ok. something like copper RTV or hylomar should work.

Dman's advice about rubber or nitrile washer/o-rings for the transient plug sound good to me.

BTW, if you end up re-tapping the hole, put grease on the tap - it should keep shavings attached to the grease rather than goin into the sump.

good luck.
