Oil Pressure Dropping To 0 Under 1500rpm-???

I applied for a Summit card and got all the parts needed, the crank was polished and was still almost like new, just needed .001 main bearings, didn't need to be ground. I put everything together and dropped the motor back in the car today, tomorrow I plan on getting it primed up and get as much put back together as I can, hopefully it will have good pressure and I won't need to pull it back apart for a while. Keeping my fingers crossed that I did everything right and have no more unexpected surprises.

Got the car put back together 100% tonight and fired it up, started almost immediately and was running about 60 lbs oil pressure while idling about 8-900 rpm, set the timing to 12 degrees and the rpms were about 700, let it run till it warmed up and the pressure was right about 50lbs, sounds good and felt great to have it running again. I didn't take it out for a drive yet since I haven't put insurance on it but will get that done tomorrow. It seems to be running just a bit rich, going to have to check into that over the weekend but other than that it seems good, also seems to have better vac. pressure when I push down on the brake pedal! Thanks for all the help in getting this engine running good again!

Any ideas about why it seems to be running rich? I have read that it will take a few times of starting and running before the computer resets itself to the new engine, don't know if that is true or just someone talking bs. I haven't pulled codes yet, just was happy to have it running. Idle is great stays in place and isn't surging. The fuel pressure regulator is stock and I don't remember if it was the one on the car from the factory in 89 or if I used the fuel rails from the motor I got a couple years ago, I'm sure I used which ever looked better. I'll hook up a gauge to check the pressure over the weekend to make sure it isn't too high. The only thing I still know I need to do something about is the fuel lines used to bolt down on one of the head bolts but the ARP bolts don't have a stud on top of one to bolt them back onto so I will need to find a spot to mount them to the block.

Computer needs about 15 minutes of drive time to adapt.
Are you running cats? Also how old are your O2 sensors?

No Cats- H-Pipe , O2's are at least 6 or 7 years old.

Replace your O2s as a pair. A catless exhaust will smell rich. You are likely fine.

Ordered a pair of O2's .....should have them in a few days, drove it to work today and it runs fine, still keeping the rpms low, was about 2500 most of the way.

Put the O2's in and no change, swapped out the EGR for a spare I had and idle is better, found hose to PCV was leaking a bit, fixed that also and it seems to be running GREAT. Can't wait to drive it to work in the morning.

congrats on getting it all back together man. im in the middle of deciding when i want to pull my motor to do the bearings as well.

I'm very happy I got it all done, the heads and intake change make more power and are just what I was looking for. I went to get on the freeway this afternoon and floored it breaking the tires loose when rolling about 10 mph, got going about 60 and floored it and it pulled hard and got over 100 quick. Seems like this motor is pretty good, more power than when I bought it brand new in 1989.
