I just bought this car and noticed the oil pressure gauge doesnt work but the car runs fine and evrything else reads normal.I looked at the oil pressure sensor on the side of the oil pan, how can I check to see if its good or bad or is it just bad because I'm guessing this is the only sensor for the gauge.

I've got a similar thing with my guages, except it's the fuel level guage. All the other ones work fine, but my gas guage is usually reading empty. Once in a while it comes on and shows the correct amount. I wish it could be fixed by just replacing a sensor, but I think it might be a part in the gas tank that needs replaced. Too much trouble for now. :)

did you look at the oil level sending unit or the oil pressure sender? i dont know about your 5.0's but foxes have both. the level sender is on the driver side of the pan.

on foxes, the pressure sender is just above the oil filter. ours are cheap - i would get a new one and see what happens. most folks run an aftermarket gauge (some Tee off the hex tube to allow both gauges to function).

good luck.

oh yeah, i might pick another gauge to get and put a pillar pod in. :)

I'm going to change my oil tommorow and see what happens.I noticed there was a sticker from when the oil was changed last and when the next is due. It has a sticker from march 04 and its passed due by about 200 miles, this car hasnt been driven much this year by that sticker.

mine is reading on the L in N O R M A L i mean waaaay up there, my mechanic put in 4w20 oil for the winter, would that have anything to do with it?
the "4w-20" he put in is just a hair thinner at start up than the more conventional 5W-20 (im just kidding). :)

you wont find an oil much more viscous that what you got in there. if L is high pressure, that is kinda funky. i take it that this reading is noted upon start up?
what did you run before and how was the pressure?

normal

it was reading in the middle of normal, but im finding out that my "good buddy" the mustang expert is a tard in disguise (not to be offensive but that is the best deffinition i could come up with) and yes, its 5, im at work so its a bit hectic, they have me DJ'in tonight (strip club and all) WOOT. so yes 5w20 and its reading high now, i thought that was weird also. could it have something to do with the oil filter or such, all we did was change the oil. i swear.
