oil pressure woes

I dropped in a 306 in my '88 last weekend. I noticed I wasnt getting any oil pressure on the guage, so I pulled the valve cover and low and behold...no oil. Im stumped because the pump isnt locked up, it turns just like a new one, any suggestions to what it could be? The motor was in my buddys car for about 4000 miles and ran fine.

pickup issue? did you replace the pump driveshaft?

didnt run the car with no oil pressure did you?
