Hi, I plan on starting restoration on my 94 GT in Fall. The oil pump has over 200,000 miles on it. Should I be worried about this? My car is in need of a convertible top and paint as well.. however the car is mechanically sound except the oil pump worries me a bit.

Would it make sense to wait till it breaks and do an engine rebuild?

It's a hell of a lot easier and cheaper just to replace the oil pump than to rebuild the whole engine. The engine might still have over 100k miles left in it before it needs a rebuild so why risk breaking it?
