Oil pump primer

I'm getting ready to revive my 289 after many years, and I want to prime the oil pump before starting. Any body know what size socket I'll need to stick down there to prime the pump?

I have a primer. How long should I spin the pump? I dont want to rinse off all the moly lube. I have new everything. I hope to start it today. I just have to put on the bell and slide in the tranny.

Isn't is customary to spin the pump long enough to verify oil pressure at the sending unit and see oil up in the valve covers?

Counter-clockwise. And a few minutes with a ratchet is enough, although an electric drill will do, too.

Also counter-clockwise, when viewed from inside the car.

socket for a 428

is the 1/4" socket correct for a 428 also?

If using a socket, I use/recommend a deep well 1/4" as the slightly enlarged shoulder on a short socket (depending on the brand) can be a kind of snug fit in the little hole in the block, especially with tape on it, and can get stuck/not come out when you pull the extension. I thoroughly clean the socket and extension with brake kleen to get a good stick from the electrical tape and then put one wrap of tape on the extension so that the socket goes on snugly and then two neatly and tightly stretched wraps around the socket/extension.
