oil question

hey guys, quick question:

I just recently checked my oil and it was wayyyyyyy low (still had excellent oil pressure though).

well, I added a quart of oil and the level was where it should be. So I ran the car a bit and checked the oil while the engine was running and it was wayyyyyyy too high. Also, ever since I added the extra but of oil the car has been smoking something horrible when I'm stopped and reallly smokes (into the passenger compartment too) when I kill the car .

I'm about to drain the oil and measure it.....but shouldn't the oil level be LOWER when the engine is running? I know my dipstick's never really been reliable...so that could have something to do with it.

you dont check the oil with the car running, oil moves. a good time to check the oil is after the car has been turned off for about 10-20 mins (allows the oil to drain back into the pan).

A Condition of too much oil with cause the crank to hit the oil in the pan and cause the oil to get bubbly sorta. this isnt good.

But im assuming since you checked while it was running oil was just slung onto the dip stick bacuse of the oil moving around.

Check it agian while its been off fora bit and see whatca got.

oh yeah, I knew not to check it with it running...I was just curious though and did it with it running. I usually wait about 20 minutes for everything to drip back down.

Either my dipstick is WAY off....or I'm burning invisible oil
