Just bought a new 04 GT. Want to change over to synthetic oil. When should this be done: right now, or after some miles are accumulated.

Also, opinions on the first affordable performance modification, to install.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Welcome to stangnet and enjoy your new ride!

How many miles are on it right now? Run the factory filled oil until 1200 miles and you can start running synthetic anytime after that. As for the mods, I would start out with an aftermarket midpipe and start doing the suspension work. You could get the shifter first (if your car is a stick) but like someone on Stangnet said before, you will appreciate it more if you get it after a couple thousand miles of ownership.

Doesn't come synthetic? You should check your manual.
I've always used Mobil 1 on my GT.

As far as I know, our cars come factory filled with Motorcraft oil which is a synthetic blend.

Everything I've read says to break in new motors with the real stuff so that the rings will seat. I switched over at 2,000 miles on mine.
