After doing a LOT of research on this, I have decided to switch from using special high dollar synthetic oil, to Chevron Delo 400. It was initally made for heavy Diesel use, but after finding its advantages, they make it for all internal combustion engines now. VERY Good stuff, and cheap. Do a search. "chevron delo 400"

Oil and filter are the most important items in engine maintenance..don't let a few dollars keep you from using quality products. I use castrol dyno oil on my little girl, but she has very few miles on her and I'm still in my break-in mindset, however as for filter I try my best to use the best available..in my case I chose K&N.

One of the best filters made is Ford Motorcraft. I like using castrol myself as far as oil.

As far as dino oil goes, the Trop Arctic is decent oil for the money. I dont know about their synthetic blend though.

The Motorcraft 10W-30 oil is also blended and can be comparable price wise.

Good luck.

Another superior diesel formulation is Shell Rotella T -- comes in dino or synthetic variations. I run their 5w-40 synthetic version in both cars now. Switched 5.0L over so I could just buy one type of oil for both vehicles. I change the filter (Motorcraft or Purolator) every 3k miles, and the oil once a year.

that makes alot of sense to change filter instead of all the oil every 3 months 4qt.rotella and 1qt.lucas oil stabilizer sounds good to me with just filter changes once a while.

I'm thinking of running the Rotella 15w-40 myself when warmer weather gets here.

Shape - you should be able to run the 5w-40 synth. year round if you want to.

sjhm - that longer change interval only works with synthetic....

Most synthetics say you can push 6-8000 out of them. I would never push a filter that far though. I am personally anal about my oil lol. I use a full syn on the '03, and still change it every 4000 at the most. The 5.0 has 10w40 in her, and is changed every 3000 miles along with the filter.
