Just changed my oil today@a little over 500 mi. Got a little worried when stuff that came out looks like swamp water. Kinda greenish brownish yellowish. very watery and not very slippery Took out about 4 1/2 qts.Refilled with mobil 1 Is this normal?
It could be that the oil was so new that it hadn't turned the darker color that comes from dirt and grime suspended in it. Either that, or you drained something other than the oil.
The drain plug is on the right hand side of the pan (facing the front of the car) and you can see creases in the pan funneling all the oil toward the drain plug hole. Once I got under the car, it was pretty obvious which one was the pan...it was the only thing that looked...pan shapped.
I replaced my old oil with Mobil 5000 and it was pretty clear when it went in...about 5 qts out, 5 qts in.
The not slippery comment makes me concerned though. The other thought I have is that the oil fill cap is pretty clearly labeled (something like "Use SAE 5W-30 oil only"). If you had drained something other than the oil, you wouldn't have had room for 5 more qts. (from the low to high mark on the dipstick is only 1 qt)
It was the oil pan I drained im sure of that. Oil from the filter was the same color. Did nt notice any metal shavings TG. Ive had new cars before and have always changed the oil within the 1st 1k but i have never seen anything like this stuff that came out. maybe its a good thing I changed it early.
Ford has the green oil in all their new Mustangs and the sooner you change it the more it's noticable. Also notice the filter is not marked like the FL-820-S that replaces it. They do this to determine if people change their oil or not when claiming warranty work. My new Mustang, '04 F150 and the Mach1 all had the green oil!
Thanks everybody Im inclined to agree with what hotrodnut says tho I dont know why anyone would not change their oil after buying a new car. Manual says to use 5-30 syn blend Went to autozone they had mobil1 syn blend for $6.00 a qt. Went to wally world and they had it for $4.00 Same bottle only its full syn. Strange Should nt make a difference should it? One other thing. I parked a good 100 ft. away from any other car, place was nt busy and when I came out sure enough someones is parked next to me No dings or scratches but from now on I take the wifes car !
