Oily short throw?

I am in the process of switching short throws, and when I took of the Steeda, and looked in the hole where the shifter goes, it looked like there was oil mixed in with the fluid in there. When I stuck my finger in it, it was pretty much gray. Does anyone have any ideas why, or what i need to do. Thanks.
BTW, I have a 03 GT with the 3650 Thanks
