you should definitely still get valve springs IMO. could save you alot of trouble depending on what cams you run.

No. Without valve reliefs on the pistons, you will likely run into PTV issues.

The 1st cam you mention is the XE270AH from Comp Cams. It will work with your stock motor, but it will require you to have the cams degree'd in to avoid piston to valve contact. The 2nd cam you mention is the XE278AH, and it will NOT work with stock pistons.

Either way, with either of these two choices, you will definately want aftermarket valvesprings.

well then i guess i wont push it too much an just go with the .550 lift 234 int. 238 exh. @ 0.50 duration and 113 lobe center angle 109 intake center line... i think it should be fine.... it says it recomends springs but it says dat on all of the .550 lift... the biggest it says springs required so ya...

I would still recommend you get the valvesprings. It would be much safer in the long run to get them.

You can get the new TrickFlow valvesprings for like $150 from Summit Racing - High Performance Car and Truck Parts | 800-230-3030.

Edit: Sorry, they are actually $199.

well if i ran the .500 int./exh. 236/240 @.50 duration 114 lobe center angle and 110 intake center line... would i even notice a power gain? or would i lose power since id be losing some lift?

If I were you, I would get the XE262AH cams. They will make good power on fairly stock applications.

Read through this article. They test the XE278AH vs. the XE262AH vs the stock cams.

stop looking at specs alone, like lift or duration - they dont really mean anything alone. For one thing, a .500" lift is usually a NPI cam. You can run .550" lift no problem, it's the type of cam with that lift that can cause problems. If you dont want to use springs you're looking at a stage 1 cam, which would be VT stage 1 N/A's, comp cam xe262ah's or hitech stage 1's

I have a VT stage 1 cams and the car will die if it's cold and i put it into reverse without throttle. At a stop light you can feel the lope through the pedal in the form of surges of power. I have side-pipes and i can hear it against the cars at every stop-light. Anyone with 2 car-related brain cells can tell you have cams at idle - but it's not an aggressive wallop like stage II that echo off lopes like a tommy gun. Honestly you dont have much a choice, if you dont want spring you're getting a stage 1, and for a car that's just got bolt ons there's no reason for a stage II cam - you wont feel the power differnece 90% of the time.

Hitec Stage 2's - no springs required - no PTV issues on a stock block - and it can get you to 300rwhp.
