Alright, (Grady, this is carry on BTW), the engine builder of the car said he never ported the lower intake, and that that cam that he put in the car should peak around 5800-6000 anyway. They are the TFI Track Heat Upper and Lower's and Victor Jr. heads which should be plenty. Could the porting cause a 30-50 HP bottleneck?

(It may sound like I am getting smarter on this crap, but don't let half-baked knowledge fool ya, LOL)

Oh, BTW, I bumped the timing back down to 10 instead of 11, because the car just didn't feel happy running at 11. I'd rather have a happy motor at 303HP than a stressed one at 311, iffen yall know what I mean with a brand new motor.

I personaly would not think the track heat would cause a 30hp loss with those heads and cam (assuming the cam is matched to the heads). What was the timing, timing advance, and A/F. I would think those would be more important to power making with the list of your combo.

Just got an e-mail back from Brad at Summit. He seems to think that the heads are too much for the build. That just doesn't sound right at all to me.

If that is so

The only assessment I could come to about those Jr's is ............
they must be some mamma jamma flowin heads.

Wow Greg, a lot of mystery about that combo of yours

Yes ... Various things don't sound right to me as well

Well here's a J for ya

The victor Jr's flow well but nowhere near what a decent set of worked over heads flow.

Am I no way a professional engine builder but with my Victor Jr's and my vic jr (carb manifold unported) my 331 made over 400 to the wheels. I was told something about increased runner velocity (probably lower rpm) with an unported lower and the port size of the vic jr's.

FWIW thats what I have been told...I will however be porting this intake cause I got some new heads...2.100/1.65...flow 330 @ 500...shhhh!

I did not mean to imply anything about your guy

I did mean to say some one thing, or maybe more than one thing, in that combo is not quite right.

Everything is not working well together to give optimum results.

It somehow seems you don't have all the pieces of the puzzle
cause
The pic ... as you describe it to us .............

Well ... at least to this Ole Texas Boy ... Is clear as mud

I'm a lookin forward to seein how this one all turns out

I may have found out some of the mystery, Grady. I just talked to Ed who tuned my car. He's pretty well known throughout the Mustang Racing world on the East Coast and does a lot of tuning for people at the drag events.

1) PROBLEM: High Idle. He said that when he tried to tune the idle down to 900 that the motor would run erratically. Not that idling at 1000 is such a big deal for me.
2) PROBLEM: Idling at 1500 until I come to a complete stop. The transient retard is turned off in my car. Ed said that my BBK 75MM TB is opened a little too far, and that is letting air in that the computer can't compensate for.
3) PROBLEM: Not making HP. He said that one reason for the "robbed" HP was that in the Tidewater Area of VA, we are mandated to E10 gasoline (10% Ethanol), and that robs 5-8% of power, which would put the 311 RWHP at about 335 RWHP. With that and the intake not being ported, I believe that explains the difference that I am seeing from guys on here and my car.

If nothing else, I hope this post helps other people out (especially when you are voting for using cleaner fuels, LOL).
