This happened once yesterday and just happened again. What is happening I am not to sure but like I said it has only happened twice so far, when I start the car the serp. belt stays stationary. The crank pully is turning(screaching because the belt is held in place some how). Non of the pullies/acc. are locked up as I camturn the car off and manualy turn the belt then it does not do it. The belt is tight and in good shap but what could be the reason for this. Like I said nothing is locked up or having problems because the car runs ant normal temps when worked up, hold good charge, I have no problems with it other than this a couple of times.

Also while we are on this subject I plan to try and eliminate the serp. belt w/o going with a expensive pully/drive belt system(such as march or something) Is there a way to do this? I plan to get rid of the smog pump also.

The simpler it will be the better.

Air pumps are known to lock up, is yours still on the car?
See if the tensioner pulley feels smooth, bearings could be going.
Was the defrost on? If so that engages the a/c compressor intermittingly.

Not sure what you mean by eliminating the serpentine belt.
You will always need it to run the alternator at a minimum.

I got a used one locally for $30. I just need the car to be able to run w/o shreding the serp. belt so I can take it to body shops and such.

Ok guys I need some help quickly. It is not the alternator. Insted it is in fact the smog pump(if that is what is below the alternator.) Is there a serp. belt with the correct length to just bypass the smog pump? Or is there a way fro me to get around buying one because I'd just assume not have it on the car.

Take a string or tape measure (you know, the kind a tailor would use) and route it through the pulleys, have someone crank the tensioner open all the way. (make sure to skip the air pump).
I can't remember mine off hand.

Alot come out to be different, so you may not get it right on the first try.

Well I have tried 3 different sizes now to no avail. 84.25, 76, and 7976 is to short and 79 is to long so I guess a 77? I thought there would be some give in what size you could get because of the tensioner but I guess I was sorely mistaken

My guess would of been 75.5, i think with my pullies that's what my car takes.

Go for the 77, it's alot of trial and error.
