not really "tech" related.

I took the mustang to a few places today to try to figure out what was wrong with it. nobody would want to look at it. seein as how it was "modified." (and it is i know) so im getting zero help from the shops around here.

the main kicker is i need to smog my car, and take it to a "Smog Only" station. nobody wants to even look at the car either. and the heads dont have a carb # printed on them anywhere, i practically get kicked out of the shop just cuz of that alone. Nothing I have has the carb # engraved even tho most is smog legal. Theres just too many things i would have to remove just to get it to pass and then reinstall. all to do it again in less than 2 years. probably much less since they love to give fix it tickets in this area.

due to a few problems now with my car and the smog nazis kickin me in the nuts, i have decided to pull the motor and put it in my 68. Im gonna do some research as to as how hard it is to do, fuel injection and all, im sure its kinda common. maybe Ill carb it if its not worth keepin the fuelie. But atleast i wont have to worry about someone making me undo my work.

i wouldnt give up my motor is gonna take time and tweaking to get it smog.........but im not gonna give up F*uck them....

I don't encourage this....but isnt there someone you know, or a friend knows that can...."get"...you a sticker? Its hard in MA, but i got a couple of people willing to help me. Ya know....most inspection guys don't care about the CARB #....most will just stick the sniffer in and see if she passes....but thats the shops around here....i'd keep trying!

I can get the motor to pass the sniffer no problem, it passed cleaner than my friends 98 stock Camry last time. Its that i have to take my car to a "smog only" station, not just some gas station on the corner. they do no real work there, only run a smog station. these people look for EVERY little thing, its not even funny. and no, i dont know ANYBODY with 5.0, closest thing is a couple friends with 96 and 99 Cobra's. That and some chevy guys, but thats it. and they care big time on carb #'s, they dont want to spend hours researching my car when they can just make a quick $80 from a stock suv or anything else that rolls in needin smog.

Where do you live? Post on here and ask around dude...maybe in the section on stangnet for your region and ask if anyone knows someone who can pass you. Why do you have to go to a smog only shop? It would probably be easier than pulling the motor

Where do you live? Post on here and ask around dude...maybe in the section on stangnet for your region and ask if anyone knows someone who can pass you. Why do you have to go to a smog only shop? It would probably be easier than pulling the motor. Can't you just find the carb numbers (you said it's smog legal stuff right) and show them the numbers instead of them looking for them on the parts? I'm glad we don't have that BS here yet

i post on cafords.com all the time. i swear its like you have to be a part of some underground secret society in order to get any help from anyone in this area. I got "randomly" selected by the DMV to take my car to a smog only station. I wonder how random that thing really is, most people I know got "randomly" selected. the places i went to said you can just get carb stickers from anywhere and that doesnt prove thats the part on the car, thats why it should be engraved on the part. also, now they put the car on a dynometer type smog machine where they put a load on your car at various speeds. makes it tougher but im sure my car would pass that still.

BTW, i live San Jose, CA.

Check out the google man at the bottom of the page. He may be good for something, I poked around a bit on dmv.org and I am guessing that you have to go to a test only location, rather than a test and repair. Seriously check out that site if you havent, they give tips on passing smog. That sucks real bad, make sure the 68 is exempt from testing before you do something drastic. I would be moving out of there in a hurry. That is one state I dont even wish to visit. Here in FL when we had testing you could pay a mechanic $50 for a passing cert. and go get your sticker with that if your car failed. They fixed nothing, just took your money and passed you no matter how it ran. On the other hand we have a bunch of oil burning junk on the roads here. Good luck to you.

passing the smog test is the easy part, its the visual. i knew this day would come.

actually the day passed, it was due in september .but i have an extension through the end of december. I will probably get another extension through january but just to get the car back to stock specs.

Dude, that royally sucks. Does anyone have a good explanation as to why you need a CARB# if the car passes an emissions sniffer test?

From a logical standpoint, shouldn't the emissions out the vehicles tailpipe be the end-all be-all of emissions testing regardless of what equipment is under the hood.

This is bureaucratic B.S. and I have a feeling that the aftermarket companies have to pay dearly to get the holy CARB E.O. #.

its just more taxes really. how many parts actually have the carb # engraved?? i know my old BBK tb had it and my old equal length headers had them, but thats it. When all I had was exhaust done way back when, I got **** from a couple places because of the headers, even though they clearly had the #'s engraved on a small plaque on one of the headere tubes. damn, and to think those were the good ol days and i didnt even know it!
