Ok well I was changing the fluid in my trans as I have done millions of times before and on plenty of T5's. Well for some reason this time I am tightening the drain plug, I barely felt it tight at all and I hear.... Crack...... So now I have a very annoying leak from that crack that I tried to cover up with quicksteel and it turned it into a few drops under the car after sitting for a week. But still drives me nuts that its like that. Ok well here is my question. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I talked to the machine shop we use at the dealer and they told me they could weld it and use some kind special insert so that it wouldnt leak. The insert only is $120 plus w/e they want to charge for welding the case. And I have to gut the case before he can do it. I am also going to try calling this trans shop were I get all my trans parts from and see if they may have any better Ideas or maybe even if they have a new case. But I wont be working at the dealer much longer so I am trying to get everything done I need to get done to the car before I start at the new job. I was also thinking maybe upgrading to a t56. Anyone have any suggestions about what to do and what is involved in a t56 swap? Thanks in advance.:flag:

Well, from someone who rebuilds transmissions, I'll give you the low down. You're probably better off fixing the transmission yourself. A T-56 is an awesome transmission, but it costs about $4K to get one setup properly for a Mustang. All the T-56s/TR-6060s you see on ebay are generally for Camaros, and will not work on a Mustang. Now, if you are building an awesome motor, the T-56 might be a good investment, because they can handle just about anything. You can get a decent TR-3550 setup for about $1500, and that's a good step between a rebuild T-5, and a T-56, although it is still a 5 speed. It's stronger than a stock T-56, but better parts are availble for the T-56 which can make them virtually indestructable.

I see you're in Miami, the most reputalbe T-5 specialist in your area is ProMotion in Pompano Beach. You might want to give him a call, and see what he has available to fix a transmission. Also, fixing your old case might be more expensive then just buying a new case. I've bought a TR-3550 case full retail for $200. Being that a T-5 is a much more popular transmission, I imagine the case would be a lot cheaper. If you are mechanically inclined, I would recommend doing it yourself. I charge $150 to tear down a T-5 or a TR-3550 and put it back together. Takes me about 4 hours to do it. Manual Transmissions are easy to work on, and only require basic tools. The only tool you might not have is a dial indicator to check the run out on the input shaft. But to be honest with you, I've done many transmissions, and it's almost always 2 shims to put it in spec. If there are two shims in there when you take it apart, I would just put it back together with two shims and just check the tension on the transmission by hand. I'm pretty confident it will be fine. You should also be aware that TTC has all the basic transmission overhaul manuals available online in PDF format for free. You can download the entire ovehaul manual from their website for free. There are also tons of videos on youtube showing you how to do it. If you have any questions, TTC has some of the best customer service in the industry. I've had guys leave their desk and walk down to the shop floor to look at things and call me back.

If you are going to take your transmission apart, I think it's a good time to give it a soft parts rebuild. The rebuild kit is $249.00 on Jegs and Summit, and is the original Ford parts and quality. It is also includes all the parts to upgrade your transmission to a World Class T-5. There are some kits available on ebay for $199, but I don't trust them. There is a very good chance they are Chinese knock off parts, although I can't verify that. I also recommend upgrading to a steel retainer which is an additional $38, but money well spent.

thanks for the advice. I have rebuilt t5's t45's and t56's. Not very difficult. I love doing them actually. So yea I know my way around a trans. And this trans has less then 30k on it. The whole car has less then 30k on it. Its a HCI 5.0 with spray and full suspension. I will probably call the trans shop on monday to see if they can get me a new case. I can have that trans apart in no time at all. Just trying to figure out if there would be and easier more cost effective way to take care of this for now. But Im still curious to know everything involved in a t56 sway because I do want to put a t56 in it in the future. Would a viper t56 work? Because I could probably get my hands on one of those.

No, unfortunately a Viper T56 won't work either. You can use what they call a Viper Spec T-56, which is a Ford case, with Viper internals. I don't think TTC has released a TR-6060 transmission for our cars yet either, now that I think about it. Last time I talked them, they had one in the works, I'm not sure if they ever released it. I don't have the exact prices for a T-56 conversion; I've never done one. If you call Hanlon motorsports or D&D Transmission, they piece together whole kits, and can tell you exactly what's involved. There is a lady at Hanlon that answers the phone, and she knows every piece of a TTC transmission inside and out. Also in those PDF overhaul manuals there are blow up diagrams that give you part numbers for every single piece in the transmission.

I was looking at a T56 swap the other day. I can't remember the website it was on but they had a full T56 swap for 4k. It came with the T56 and everything needed except a clutch. Drive-shaft, tranny mounts and everything.

I'll see if I can dig that website up when I get to work.
