Last weekend I went to the strip with the convertible and was hoping to be in the 14's with the mods in sig. I also have a Lentech manual vb and slicks.

What the hell is wrong...I tried flashing the stock converter from idle (2.2 60ft), tried bringing the rpms to 2000 (2.35 60ft). Runs were between 15.1 and 15.3 with 2.2-2.3 60ft (89-91 mph).
- Shifting was between 5200-5500.
- Slicks were at 13psi.
- Slicks were heated 3-4 seconds.

Previous best of 14.9 without any mods...

Can my traction lock be the problem...track official told me only one tire was spinning during burnout.

HELP!

Ok, the very first thing that i notice is that you say you have slicks and are still only getting a 2.2 60'? That is terrible! what brand are they?
you need to step up to a 3k stall and a set of 3.73s or 4.10s.

You need a nice converter and some gears would help too.

I second that motion :nice: Get about a 3000 stall and some 3.73 and call it a day.

The one tire spinning is an indication of a worn trac loc. Spinning off the line would be a traction problem. Also what tires were you using?? When you get the stall and gears street tire are just about useless.

my notch ran 14.9 with 3.27's, only other mod was a shift kit an mac equal length headers (on street tires)...so u might get there with those gears if u wanna keep them for highway driving, i went to 3.73's an noticed a big drop in mileage, but thats not my daily driver

Only one tire spinning, well fix that first. Just rebuild the traction-loc even if you dont' change out the gear but 3.27's don't really count as a gear much. Much better than 2.73 but not anywhere near 3.73 or 4.10's.

How tall were the slicks? Given your LOW level of power, the slicks probably hurt you more than helped you.

I don't think there's anything wrong with your times - not much gear, 3600 lb. race weight convertible with an aod and maybe 235HP -- 15.0 sounds about right to me. It's a heavy beast and the aod doesn't help matters - you need lots of gear and lots of stall to launch it. Be careful with your mods -- anything that hurts low end torque is gonna make it seem that much slower.

I am running 14.4s with the mods listed in my sig, except for the p heads. Get some gears. I would go with 3.73s or 4.10s, everyone has an opinion on on which gears. I love my 4.10s but probably should have gone with 3.73s cause I do much else in the way of mods I will be running out of gear. oh well

If you aren't going to mod it much then 4.10s are probably a better choice for you but if you are going to mod it up or go forced induction then definetely go with 3.73s. At the same time get them to rebuild that traction lok. That is the beauty of the clutch style diffs they are fairly simple to rebuild. the kit is around 40-45 bux.

Next get yourself a good converter. Talk to the guys at www.edgeracingconverters.com and they should be able to hook you up. That will go along ways towards getting those times down.

I need a converter and traction badly myself. I smoked my OD band so when I have the trans rebuilt I will get my converter then.

And get yourself a nice big trans cooler before you get a converter. Keep that AOD as cool as possible.

Here is a nice site for info on gears and diff work

and one for AOD upgrades and info

Rebuild the Traction Lok and add in extra clutch plates and steels, change to 3.73 gears and at least 3000 stall converter. I did this to the nephews except we have a 3600 converter and run 7.15's all night long on and 1/8 mile track. The biggest help with your current setup will be the extra clutches in the rear.

Slicks are 26X8 MT ET drag. I don't understand why slicks would not help me. Everybody says if you want to have traction, get yourself some slicks. That's what I did. Now, because I don't have alot of horsepower, slicks are not helping... Can someone please explain?

The sticky tires are basically bogging down your low HP motor. You may actually be able to use them but try running more air in them. A little spin will help get you into the higher rpms where the motor can move the car better.

That being said, gears and converter would be a huge help. Do the gears and trac-loc at the same time. Better to buy the rearend lube and gasket once.

Thanks for the input. But I would like to be able to run in 14' with my current mods. I think it is feasible. I did it even without the intake...

Should I ditch the slicks? Or like someone said give it a little more pressure?

I would agree that gears and stall w/shift kit is gonna help out a lot, but I would chk to make sure the car is running correctly, chk codes, koeo and koer, maybe cylinder balance test, compression test, and chk for any vacuum leaks w/a good tune up. I would think the car would be faster, notice any issues after the intake install, if you did maybe double chk that.

I like my 3.73`s as far as street goes I think 4.11`s would be better for track tho. if you keep your lockup go 4.11 non lockup go 3.73. My converter
(2500stall) only stalls to 2000 and I would say the 2500 would help me so go with 3000 stall. will still be good on the street at 3000 stall. Another thing that helps the AOD cars is run as much initial timing as you can, Im @ 18 deg. Next time your in the tranny put in the 4r70w gearset 2.84 first gear. that will get that pig launched.
