basically i'm swapping my current engine into my buddys 97 GT. we are keeping the original front covers from both our old engines just so i dont need a new blower bracket.

what i need to know is if the chains and tensioners from his 116K mile engine will work on mine. i have heard that the older 4.6 has steel guides. he is buying me a set of stock PI heads to have ported and i'm getting another intake for my new engine. is there anything i need to keep from my original engine to use on the new one?

any info on what needs to be done for this swap turn out right is greatly appreciated

I think some of the new 4.6 motors use a tensioner that uses plastic components. Thats whey they say to go with the older tensioners. As far as the guides, Im pretty sure they have all been plastic, and with that many miles on the guides Id pick up a new set for 25 bux or so.

Yeah, the plastic guides should be replaced at 116K, but they are made to last that long or longer. The chain should be fine as it is tensioned hydraulicly. They aren't like the 5.0L chains where they stretch out and break.
