Makes me wonder why people want the SSP cars so bad. Poor Stang, bet the frame is tweaked from jumping into that ditch.

I laughed when I clicked on a video link for a Talon falling off a dyno

Yeah, I never understood why SSP cars are so desirable. To me, knowing A LOT of cops and how poorly they treat their duty vehicles, a car being a SSP would NOT be a selling point. Honestly, if i saw those bucktags I'd more than likely walk away. Cop cars get BEAT TO DEATH. Period.

they dyno is pricless Sad about the stang though he really didnt need to jump down there at all, could have just slowed down or went around. but if you had a car and the go ahead to drive it like a stunt man, would you?

What the heck was that wagon doing?! (lets pull infront of the car that actually has a chance of getting him) lol...

I guess the pit maneuver isn't as effective against and AWD car? Good driving on the officer's part overall. He kept control all the way, and minimized risk to civilians. The closest call was the oncoming traffic that came by him within a second or two of him shifting back into the right lane.

At about 1:28 it looks like the SSP actually passes around a blue LX right after the narrarator says "fully loaded, 5 point 0 Mustang."

Yeah, I held my breath for that manuever. That was close!
It always amazed me how fast my old Talon was. A buddy made me a down pipe and I took out the restrictors from the intake and the boost limitation off the controll valve. That was the mid 90's and it smoked almost anything on the road back then. For a $10,000 car it was insaine.
Now you can get them for quite abit less which is good since you will need two for when you shatter the rear end on one

It's a complete MYTH that SSP's are all beat to death. My car is nicer than probably 95% of the '85 coupes out there. The Mustangs weren't used for driving around all day, they were usually chase vehicles or just ticket cars. They may have lots of miles on them but they don't necessarily get beat on any more than your average gear banging Mustang owner would do to a non SSP Mustang. In fact i would almost say the SSP is BETTER given the detailed maintenance they receive. My car was retired in '01...that's 16 years of service and then a few years of drag racing after that. It's all in the maintenance.

Not saying ALL are beat to death but I have seen a few police videos involving a Mustang chase car and they always got the crap beat out of them.

You let someone who has never driven one before go out and play by themselfes and they are gonna go WOT and burn out and screw up shifts. Now imagine the cars whole life of newbs driving it and rining it out for all its worth. Then not care that you just jumped a 4" curb because you are chasing someone. Or try and pit them OR RUN IT INTO A DITCH!

Now I have had a few x-cop cars in my life, Crown Vics and Caprice. They ran great! Very fast too but every panel had a dent and there were holes in the roof and trunk and when you got under them you can see many chasis hits by whatever they flew over.

In my hunt for Fox cars latley I have seen a few really nice coupes for cheap that I really thought about getting until I saw that "Ex cop car" tag.
I would have to go over it with a fine tooth comb before I bought one. But thats just me

I didn't mean any disrespect to guys on here that have Special Service Package cars, like 85_SS_302_Coupe and 1993SSP. You guys obviously have well-maintained examples, or cars that escaped most of the brutality of being a duty vehicle. I may be biased in comparing other police agencies to the largest police force in the US, but my best friend is NYPD and I've seen how they treat their cars. They ramp curbs, smash into other cars, not to mention how many people slam into them each day, they even have this one particular spot where they speed up and try to "get airborne" on purpose. There's also the wonderful thought of how much blood, semen, puke, saliva, and any other imaginable bodily fluid was sprayed all over the back seat...

Another thing to consider with cop cars is that they will often sit in the median or in a parking lot running for hours at a time daily without gathering much in the way of mileage. So whereas a typical car with 80k miles on it will have 2500 hours of running time, the cop car with the same amount may have 10,000 hours of running time on it.

At least a lot of these cars have heavier duty equipment (oil coolers, bigger alternators, etc...) and are treated to regularly scheduled maintenance of some kind.

and the ssp's there were many compared to the other cars they had in there fleet. most (probably none) had one of those cage thingys for putting bad guys in the back so I think they were good with the puke thing. I remember seeing a ssp in california (chp maybe). I was driving behind it in my 68 camaro going about 45 on the road. He must have got a call bc he gunned it and was gone. it was great. and like mentioned above, they get regular service checks and heavier duty alternators and what not.

Yeah, the CHP ran those cars for years. As a fan of Fox body Mustangs it was always cool to see them.

According to books I have read, they were only to be used during the day b/c CHP had a rule that nigt patrols needed two officers and two wouldn't fit in these cars.

Anyways, the appeal is because most of them are no option or few option coupes...THAT is why people want them.

California was only one of the states that utilized these cars. I saw hundreds in FL. I'm guessing that they were prevalent in most of the other states, as well. I know that they were used in FL at night as I was pulled over by one .... He complimented my 5.0 and let me go
