Well, I spent 18 months rebuilding little 87 "stang", new engine, tranny, suspension, interior, brakes, conv top, fuel system, stereo, etc.. I was just getting ready to start prepping it for its spring paint job, when BAM....

Yep, old geezer in his new Nissan truck decided to make an illegal turn right in front of me. Now, before any old folks get their dander up, I'm 51 so we're talking about a real old geezer here, like 85.

Now, little "stang"'s entire front end is moved to the right about 6 inches. Hood has this new rakish look, with its extra hump right in the front. Amazingly, it still drove, it just doesn't like to take any turns, since the fenders are now about 1/2 inch away from the tires.

Gee, I'm so glad I just bought those new headlights on ebay. At least the cops found him in the wrong, gave him a $150 ticket, 3 pts on his license and he gets to go to drivers school. Oh, and his insurance and I get to start arguing about the value of the car. I know they will want to total it, which may be ok for me, but I'll be damned if I take some crap value for it. And yes, I may just remove the entire front end and start again.

Or I might part it out. Decisions, decisions.

So much for the spring time trip to NC.

:-(

That sucks ... man .. atleast you made it out alright. Cars can be fixed alot easier than a person.

And... I know what it's like ... my 91 was absolutely mint, up until last winter, when a woman pulled out of a driveway without looking, and I drove right into her drivers side front tire. Now my rad support is pushed back about an inch, and my hood doesn't line up properly. (had to get a new hood, front lights, and bumper cover) .
I of course totalled her car, cop found her in the wrong, I had to go to court, as she pled not guilty, judge charged her aswell, with 3 points gone and a $500 ticket. Unfortunately I'm still stuck with a screwed up front end.

Ahhh I know the feeling...my '87 TC had a 99% straight body up until last July, I was turning into a parts store and was going over a hump in the road so it was hard to see where the middle of the road was that I was turning into...anyway, I ended up way over in the wrong lane and a guy in a Ranger was in my blind spot (behind the A-pillar) and his bumper went down the driver's side of my car, left a nice crease the whole way down and I had to replace the fender because it was dented beyond all recognition It really hurt to say the least, and I could fix it if I replaced the door and put some bondo on the rear quarter, but it's really not THAT bad so I decided to leave it. It's a good reminder to drive a little more carefully.

Mine isn't as severe as all of your stories. But my Dad was driving my 88 and he backed it into a trailor. I could've believe that he missed it, the thing was huge. Anyway, the body was in just about perfect condition. Now, I need a new trunk and some work done on the right rear quarter panel. It sucks, but what can you do?

yeah...my dad just got rearended by a crown vic in our explorer 2 nights ago at 1:30 in the morning. I just waxed it too. but the other guy had insurance and a totaled vic now. my friend wasn't so lucky. he got t-boned by a car full of mexicans with no insurance in his '93 cobra. new dss shortblock full maximum m. suspension, we just did a 5 lug conversion with baer brakes up front and sn-95s on the back. i was ticked. everyone is ok though. thats the most important thing. cars are great but can never reach the value of life.

Glad he is OK, but weren't '93 Cobras 5-lug from the factory?

EDIT: No, nevermind. Only the Cobra Rs were 5-lug.

351- Don't worry about it, if/when I replace the door it would probably be when I repainted the whole car, and that'll be a ways off (plus I don't feel like struggling with a 500 lb TC door)
