Old Ford Classic Problem

After being stuck at Home Depot I got a new starter solenoid. Second one in two years. Here is the issue. My car started off a jump at the solinoid. I could not see what he did. I got a new solinoid. What do you think. The car does nothing when you turn the key but it jumps from the solinoid. New battery wire??? Labor Day coming and I need an easy fix to an old school problem.

Cover all your bases pete, ign. switch,battery cables,and a new starter.
You know you want to treat your baby to new parts

If you are jumping the solenoid then the wiring on the side of ignition switch is suspect

Instead of 'jumping' the solenoid, try putting 12V to the trigger wire and see what happens.

If the car tries to start then your 12V switched power supply coming from the ignition SW is broken somewhere.

This should be an easy fix. DVOM or just a test light, test the wire on the small post, it comes from the ignition and activates the solenoid, you need to get 12 volts when key is turned to start.

Talk about strange problems, I hag a 72 olds442 when I was a teen and while driving on the freeway the passenger window would crank itself up.

Im going to work on this later. I will start by putting 12 volts to the trigger wire. I was fooling with my fuse panel...Does the ignition wire go thru the fuse box at all???

If the dash stuff works when you turn the key on the fuse in the box is good, I think the 'start' wire may have a fuse link, I think, anyway do yourself a favor and test the start wire for cranking voltage

When i touched the 12 volts to the small wire on the solinoid the starter sounded ready to go.....Any ideas now I dont want to creat more isses and I have all day Dash stuff is bright with full power battery

Ok nappy hairs....As usual with these old cars it suddenly worked when i put it together, and turned the key. The one issue I have is I need to smash my foot/clutch pedal into the firewall to get it to go. Any ideas on the safety switch

You need to get under that dash and check the wired at the ignition switch and the clutch switch, work the clutch peddle and see if it's pulling on the wires.

...and adjust the switch position if you can.

If you can't, get creative and adjust it anyway.

I think I remember from the clutch cable install that there is a switch up there. I will try to adjust it tomorrow AM.

A piece of wire also works.... theoretically of course.
