One piece oil pan gasket

I just found out FelPro makes a one piece rubber oil pan gasket. Has anyone had any experience with these? It say not for racing use. Why would that be? Thanks.

A 1 piece oil pan gasket will help stop leaks much better than the standard 4 piece set that comes in many rebuild kits.

Sometimes, they also have metal crush sleeve's to help prevent over torquing the gastket. Can you post up the part number? I would like to save it for future reference.

Sure, it is FEL-OS34508R. It is rubber over metal, I am just kinda wondering why Fel Pro says it's not for racing use. Dosen't make sense to me.

I use them on everymotor I build, very nice pieces...the race use thing is confusing, it is a oil pan gasket...lol

Is it possible to change the oil pan and gasket with the engine in place?
I don't think so, but I'm not sure.

With it in place, No. With it in the car, Yes.

But you have to jack up the engine to clear the k-member and its not very fun.

just replaced mine in my 95GT, not fun but didnt have to jack up the engine either...hope you have a lift to work on

Maybe they mean "not for racing use" because it isn't meant to be pulled on and off when you have to work on engines at the track? Or just touch up somethings a lot...I don't know.

I bought one from 50resto.com and it came in a Ford bag...and it is rubber/metal...so hopefully it works well. I'm going to install it bone dry except in the corners where the cover/pan/block meet.

Ok, to shed some light on this, we installed a canton 7 quart oil pan and windage tray on my budies motor. If you look at the directions, it states that they work better with a 4 piece pan gasket, and not to use a 1 piece. dont ask me why, but it is in the directions. so i gave him my new 4 piece, and i got 2 - 1 piece gaskets now

i got the part number (i have a ford 1 piece gasket and a trickflow 1 piece gasket) at home, ill try to get it for ya at lunch

Yeah Canton says that but those 4 pc sets are junk.... The only way I could get them not to leak is with the gasket mentioned above. I put a nice bead of sealant on the front and back on the pan, and put it on.

Also do not use the stock pan support rails on any aftermarket pan it will not seal properly.

i know that, but the dude im helping is a strictly by the numbers kind of guy, and he wont deviate from the instructions.. so he gave me his nice 1 piece

So what would you all suggest on oil pan gasket installation prep? I have a one piece rubber/metal one...

Use the rail supports right?

Ah I wounder if that includes the factory "style" aftermarket pans? I have one on my new mill with the 1pc gasket..the rails were used and I did have some leak issues. Oil was collecting on the oil pan bolt heads, and I had to remove/rtv/reinstall the bolts...I was looking at the possibility the gasket my have been overtorqued, but I just wasn't sure how it could have been.
