oops..fuel pressure question

So to save a long story...I'm pulling an engine out of my 87 GT. Its down to a longblock with fuel rails, accessories are all out. I just remembered this morning that I FORGOT to relieve the fuel pressure. This is not my first fuel injection parts replacement( had to replace entire fuel system in both my 88 and 91 s10 lowriders), I just had a lapse of reason. Obviously putting battery back in, turning key, and etc. isnt an option(or is it?)

My question is, short of reassembling the entire engine, is the a plan B for relieving my fuel pressure? I was thinking SLOWLY/CAREFULLY remove fuel filter since I've got to do it anyway. Any advice? And please, I already feel like a moron so be nice!

So ya still have the stock fuel rails installed? Just behind the alternator, there's a pressure valve in the fuel rail, just like a tire valve. Just wrap a rag around a screwdriver and depress it. All you'll get is a little spray of fuel for a second, no big deal.
