What's up? I tried to search for this topic in old threads, but found none. My 2001 V-6 has headlights that are opaque and look like they are poc-marked and old, like the sun has damaged them, making them crack slightly. I bought it used in 2003, and it was like that already. I am thinking about getting the Black Angel-eye headlights to replace them, but I was wondering if anyone knows a way to polish them back to the factory look
My cyclops light was like that too, sun-damaged and ugly, but it was the first thing I replaced. I see so many other Mustangs with this problem, I am sure you know what I am talking about, even if I did not describe it right. help...
p.s. You can sort of see in the pics in My Garage.....

Polishing them is tough, but can be done. You need to look for a headlight polishing kit that's sold in the car parts stores that includes several sheets of fine grit abrasive paper and a tube of polish. If you can't find that, you can get your own abrasive (1200, 2000, and 4000 grit if I remember) and use some of the plastic compound that is available in the abrasives section at Home Depot or Lowe's. You'll need a buff on a grinder or polisher, since a lot of elbow grease is required.

It's a lot of work, so a lot of people just buy another set of headlights. Make sure they're DOT stamped so you're not blinding people and getting pulled over all the time!

start with 500 if it is bad, then move to 2000+. wet sand.

wipe some toothpaste around wash off. Buff on Meguires PlasticX or whatever till it gets shiny. If your still yellow Put rubbing alchol into the lights and shake them around with your hand cuping the light holes. Or tape over them. DONT USE WATER! the alchol will burn off some yellow grit on the inside and wont make them fog up like water.

It was easy

Mine sucked on my 97 when I first got it last year. But while in WallyWorld I came upon a kit to clean/buff them and it worked like a charm. It didn't take long at all with my drill. In the kit you have these sticky pads with some kind of white stuff on them that you stick to a rubber pad and you put on your drill. A little water and a little time and they look much better than before. I cannot remember the name but it was a black box about 3 inches square and 6 deep in size with different colored writng on it.
