I read the thread about the roller idler arm and I have a few questions.

I received the roller bearing kit from Cobra Automotive for my 65 and there appear to be two pieces that are suppose to fit up into the idler arm. My problem is they don't just slide in there, I don't want to force them and damage something.

There is a small piece of tubing that I don't think I really need because of the way the parts go into the idler.

Last but not least not and I feel dumb for asking this, which way should the roller bearings face ? I am referring to the actual bearings that move inside the circle. I would think it would make sense that the top and bottom point at each like book ends if that makes any sense.

I had the same fitment issue. You will have to file or grind down the pieces to fit. I wouldn't remove any material on the idler arm. I used a file with the pieces in the vise, rotating it often. It is better not to force it in there.

The bearings have a full surface on one side and a split on the other. The split side goes tward the pieces you file/grind down. The arm won't rotate if you get it wrong so it's not hard to figure out.

It should look like this when your done.

The sleeve is out, the bushing is out. That wasn't that bad since I had a machine shop just press them out.

I will try and grind them down and see if I can get them to fit.

I will admit part of me was thinking of having the machine shop take off just a small bit. I gotta buy another bracket as well because I doubt mine will fit based on the threads I have read. Do the regular Mustang vendors sell them ?

Ok, I have the pieces fitting in my idler thanks to a little grinding. And I was right, my idler bracket comes up a little short. I figured it might since Opentracker and Dodgestang had the same issue. I wanted to buy a new one but the usual parts vendors aren't showing the bracket that I need. Those idlers seem to be made differently.
