Im going to be buying heads relatively soon and Im not sure what way to go, any opinions would be appreciated. The car has the following add ons.

1986 Mustang LX

Cobra intake.
B303 cam.
Mass Air Conversion.
B&K CAI.
B&K Headers.
MDS Ignition module.
Timing bumped up 13%
24lb. injectors.
Short throw shifter.
Aluminum driveshaft.
3.73 gears.
Frame ties.
rear upper and lower control arms.
Adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

I purchased this car used and the majority of these upgrades were done by the previous owner. I was told the heads were stock and the entire motor was "freshened up".

Depending on budget, TW's and afr's should be at the top of the list.
Gt40x i would say is next, maybe the newer edelbrock rpms too.
Certainly would not be using anything patriot related, they need hundreds in head work to make them right.

all above or very good options but I'll add these since they don't get mentioned alot, Brodix 5.0.'s. I have seen very good #'s posted from these heads and they are a good long standing company.

One thing you'll want to do some research on is your pistons. If they aren't notched, I believe '86 had flat-tops, and that might affect your selection. B-cams are pretty mild, but with bigger valves I'm not sure if you'll run into trouble. Hopefully, someone with more experience chimes in.

+1 forgot that. either way a PTV check is a must in my book and crazy if not done. just be ready to have the pistons fly cut if needed, chances are the valves are going to be close. even guys who swap over to E7's on the 86 come close but are okay with a b-cam but not all motors are equal and some haven't made the clearance either. I know you don't want E7's just an example, even if you where running true flat tops I would still say check PTV it's just cheap insurance.

If your car still has the '86 pistons, twisted wedge heads are really your best choice for valve clearance. Anything else will be hit-or-miss. I wouldn't consider that a problem, though, Trick Flow sells a good product. I'll be putting TF heads on my '86 this winter...
