the mini starters, if you buy a good one, are awesome pieces with great torque and a lot of cranking power (especially for these NY winters )
but you should know that they're wired differently and you'll need to follow the proper wiring diagram in order for it to operate correctly... here's the proper wiring diagram:
http://www.fordracingparts.com/download/instructionsheets/FordInstShtM-11000-A50A75B50B75.pdf
whatever you do, DO NOT use the jumper wire method by making a small jumper from two terminals on the starter solenoid, this is a good way to burn out a new, expensive unit, and i've seen a lot of guys on other forums give that as advice and it's wrong and costly
just follow the diagram i provided or one of Jrichter's diagrams and you'll be fine, good luck!

The one on eBay isnt too bad of a deal. I just asked for a 92+ starter at the parts store, this way you'll have a lifetime warranty. Then I got a 5.5 feet of wire and some ring terminals and hooked it up.
It sure works a lot better than that chunk of lead Ford called a starter.

Why does a mini starter have to be wired different?
If that is the case, i will just get a reman for my 88. i am sick of re-wiring everything!

I've been using an Autozone starter since '03 when i got my car...no problems yet. It has a lifetime warranty, so when it craps out i'll get a new one free.
I guess if i had the money to splurge on stuff like this i would, but the weight savings are minimal and i don't have really high compression so the stocker works fine for me. I'd think about what you really need and whether the cash spent is justified. Just my 2 cents.

Because the mini starter has its own solenoid... unlike the old monster starter. Its a five minute wiring job, move a wire add a wire.
