The opinions that I am requesting is on gear size, Im having trouble deciding between 3.55 and 3.27's. Right now the car has 3.73's. I think Eric is running 3.27's but not sure, Scott I beleive is running 3.55's, Im just trying to figure out with my setup what the optimum gears would be, Keep in mind this car will be driving to and from the track as well as driving down to Oregon to visit relatives and friends, this will not be a trailer car.

Forgot to add that with the 3.73's as Eric and a few others can verify, I am running out of gear about 150-200 feet before the 1/4 mile mark, therefore bouncing the rev limiter:bang: I have 17 X 9 Cobra R's with Nitto DR's 275/40/17 on the rears.

My lowest ET was 11.66 and the Highest mph was 121 with the Nitto's and 3.73's, and the T60-1 HiFi Turbo Street kit (sold)

Thanks for the help.

I'm not a proven 10 sec. or faster guy so the only advice I have is that we all need to cross our fingers for your block. Unless you have as good of luck as Scott did that is.

so you're sticking with the 5-speed, what tires are you planning to run? That will really be the deciding factor.

If you stay with a 26" tire I'd go with the 3.27's, if you go 28" I'd run the 3.55's. You're not running enough MPH to need the 3.27's with a 28" tire, especially with the stick.

If you cant hit 10's w/ a 76 and all the other stuff there's a problem. And a 100 shot "if needed" The only thing you would need is a A-4.

Sounds like a little over kill. I had a stock 60,000 mile block, stock guts, old school cast iron heads not ported, e-303, 1.6 FMS rockers, stock RPM intake, D-2 w/ 14psi.
38LB injectors, 6ALw/boost retard, A9L/PMS, 3550w/ bad clutch, 3.55gear on 28x10.5's
Went 10.90 @128

You had descent mph before 121 should be low 11.0-11.10 What was you 60ft, gonna guess 1.90 plus w/ a 40 series tire on a 17" Too much rim, not enough sidewall. What was your rev limiter 6500? Not gonna make it on 3.55's, or be real close w/a stick and boost. If N/A id say too little a gear.

Id say ditch the cobra wheels, go 15x9 ET streets and some 4.56, go N/A and bump the old rev limiter up over 7 and hang on! Could get 10's on your combo w/ a little higher compression. :) But boost does rule!

Well with everything I have, besides the Block not being a 4 Bolt block, I have enough to make 1000 HP with no problem, so power is not the issue.

When I did the 11.60's @ 121 my 60ft was 1.9's. The power of the car was just shy of 500 rwhp and 580 rwtq and that was done in 85 degree heat, and rev limit was set at 6k.

Now with the new T-76 Turbo setup and N20 we have a goal of over 600 on the pump and maybe 700+ on some race gas, obviously this all depends on how long the block holds together. My Engine builder is pretty confident that the 600 rwhp will be ok, but the 700 will be running on the edge if not over, but like I was always told, if you want to go fast, your gonna break stuff:D

I want deep into the 10's not just a 10.9, to me running a 10.9 or anything .9 means you either had a great run, or you just got lucky, when I run a number I want to be well within that number, keep in mind this is just how I am.

The original goal of this car was to build a car that Looked good was quiet sounding, a 5 speed that you could drive 1-2 hours to the track, run 10's all day long and then drive it home, and still take it for the sunday drives. All this being done on pump gas.
so far I have accomplished everything except the 10's.

I guess Im at the point in which I have to decide if I want this to be a Race driven street car or a Street driven Race car.

Well remember 10.9 is not a 11.00 everyday of the week:D , and will put the light on first. I do not see you having a 1,000 hp street car your going to "cruise". And if you do, it will not go down the track. And 700 on a stock 5.0, go ahead and order another now and one after that. Push over proven 500 to the ground and your on lent time.

I went 10.90 with 300 and some change, you dont need a 500 or 700 to run into the 10's. You need hook, a 1.90 gets you no where heads up racing is over by the eight mile anyways. Every NMRA Pure street car makes a 300-330hp N/A with alot of restrictions, and the record is 10.23 (yes rich got DQ for .001 over legal CU, but thats gay). Or maybe you just gotta know how to drive that 10.90:nice:

I think all that turbo and NOS will make a great smoke show, but I am not sure if it would be your tires or your blown motor! Thats how I look at things. Stay easy on the power and go for traction. Peadling the car out 300-600FT cause it will not hook on street tires then hoping for a big pull at the end is iffy,

It is a fun venture been there done that for four years to get it right, ( 1 motor, 3 blowers, a lot of valvetrain, 3 T-5s and a 3550) then once your in the ten's you only want more!!

William your like family too me, but you one crazy mofoo. I shall pray for you and those 185 heads not to get hurt:nice:

Well thanks for all the input, Ill take it all with a grain of salt.

But I have decided on what to do. Im going to switch some Items out, So I will be posting some Items for sale in the classifieds.

1. Going with a C-4 Setup able to handle up to 750 rwhp, already have a possible deal setup for one.
2. Got a deal going for some 33 Spline Axles, and 33 Spline Spool.
3. Looking for some 3.55's
4. Also will be looking for a Stall converter, not sure on Stall amount maybe a 2500-3200, also trying to locate a Trans brake for a C-4.

Well I dont have a problem with you wanting alot of HP. but it sounds like you are not putting what you got to the ground. I would ask if you have spent much time driving a spool around on county roads :( Why not a locker? mine has yet to break. I dont agree with your torque converter ##s I think they are off by 1000 or so... you will need to rpm the motor over 6500 and I think 3.27 will help over all. Buy a good converter mine stalls 4800 yet I drove it home in high when low broke it didnt care:) One more thing..You will have to drive it all the way down if you dont spend some out back:D

Well as far as the 33 Spline stuff and the C-4, Im getting this from Eric, This car is pretty much a Track car now with minor street duty. I will be running a 28" Tire with the 3.55's. Me and Eric was estimating 3000 for a guestimate on where the T-76 will Spool up, And as far as the rear suspension, I will be doing that also.

This is just an estimate, keep in mind suspension and driver skill will still take part. But this is what I will be shooting for. Weight of car is probably a little heavy but will sufice for the numbers below.

Car weight: 3500 lbs with driver
ET and MPH goal: 10.10 @ 135
Estimated RWHP to achieve this: 671

Also-

Using a 275/60/15 tire will give me a tire diameter of: 27.99
So tire diameter 27.99 and 3.55 gearing
Puts me at: 140.7947 @ 6000 rpm with a 1:1 ratio

So this will give me a 5 mph cushion for driver error to reach my goal.

I beleive this is pretty accurate of what I want to do.

Will, you need to take converter slip into account there as well on your MPH calculations. Figure 10% for a good converter so at 135 in high gear you'll be closer to 6350.

Shouldn't be a problem for what you've got, but it may not be a bad idea to go to the 3.31 or 3.27 gears now that I run the numbers and look at it for a little cushion. With the C4 it'll have plenty of gear still at launch and you won't have to rev the car quite so high.

Sounds good, guess Ill start looking for a set of used 3.27's:nice:
