What are peoples opinions of the new MAC catback? I'm not looking for opinions on sound or power, but quality and fitment.

http://www.stangnet.com/Tech-Articles/MACs-NEW-SS-Tipped-Catbacks.html

The new style has 3" SS tips (old was 2.5 chrome), and the rest is coated in their new durablack coating. It also has more ball/socket joints for more adjustment possibilities, but to me that seems to indicate more leak possibilities.

Does anyone use this newer style catback?

Rick

my friend has a new kit on his 95gt and all i can say is you get what you pay for, it's ok but not the best, for the price it's worth it, im not saying it fit's like chit but there's room for improvement, IMHO, get it you wont be dissapointed.

I like the MAC sound and quality, i have them on my car. Love having my car sound differant than the Flows. Like the flows but I wanted to be differant. Plus the install was a piece of cake. You will like them, but i would get them off Ebay for about $269..

Personally I don't like MAC very much. Their products seem cheap and they're a new company. I'd say stick with flowmaster

PS - no offense to anyone that likes/has MACs

Actually, I think MAC started making Stang parts back in the 80s, didn't they? Sorry to hi-jack your thread!

i'm pretty sure too.

anyway, i love my mac catback. so much different from the flows and others, and a great price(unbeatable). the fit is great, the only issue i had was a bit of rust on the chrome, over the axle. other than that, it's great, with ss tips, it's a sure bet. here's a quick vid of mine. quick exhaust vid

by the way, i just do a little tap @ 1k, 2k, and 3k. i'll have a better one later

I installed one on my car a couple months ago.
The instructions are worthless.
So you basicly have to figure out which pipe goes where.
All those joints make it a lot of work to get the pipes straight.
And after several attempts my tailpipes are still a little off.
The tip hangers suck.
So far no leaks though.
But even with all that, I think it's worth the money.
The sound is great. Much better than a Flowmaster IMHO.

I don't like MAC either. As a matter of fact, when I get rid of this MAC H-pipe (going long tubes) you will never see another MAC piece of crap on my car

MAC started back in the 80's making motorcycle exhaust and later moved to Mustang's. MAC owner son opened up Pacifica Performance which is the same stuff. They've been around a few years ago.

I've had MAC EQ length headers back in 1995 and they were passed down twice and still going. My MAC cat back and Prochamber were purchased in 1999 and the fit, sound and performance was top notch. They've been handed down to Green 94 5.0 and he loves it. He also added the MAC ceramic 1 5/8 Long tubes (very nice looking). The chrome tips are still in great shape. My Long tubes were bought by BlueOvalStangGT's friend.

I'm ordering my exhaust system next week. It will be MAC again 1 3/4 Ceramic Headers, 3 inch Prochamber and 3 inch cat back.

Do they fit with 315's?

I just wish that they didn't have the extra joints for leaks to occur, like the old style MAC catbacks... Is that not a problem? Do they seal well?

I have MAC LT's and prochamber now (with Flowmaster catback), so am thinking that these may be a good match...

Thanks,
Rick

Ive had my MAC catback for 3 years now and its still going strong. I love the sound very deep compared to flows. I had a Flow master 2 chamber catback before my mac and i think the macs make my flows sound like beat up vagina, just my opinion though.

I have had one flowmaster catback and that is enough for a lifetime. the flowmaster quality compared to the MAC was complete garbage, the tailpipes weren't as nice, one was too short, and the pipes hit the frame. I spent more money fixing it than the purchase price, at least with the MAC you can adjust it, the flowmaster has to be cut and welded for any type of adjustment.

I bought the new kit a few months back...

Good: tailpipes look awesome!
Sound is LOUD and rapsy, deep.... scary!
Work great with my 315 width tires
It's cheap.

Bad: Tailpipe hangers suck.
dura-black is already chipping off................
my tailpipes still do not line up right, the fit just sucks....

CLIFFNOTES: quality and fitment SUCKS, sound is awesome.
