Opinions on Intakes please.

I'm leaning towards the aFe and the Granatelli intake (the ones that do not require a tune) mostly because I can take them off easily and not have to worry about warranty issues with retuning the computer.

Anybody have luck with either of these? Are there other options? (besides the WMS)

Before anyone mentions it, i'm not planning on a tuner until the car is out of warranty.

Just out of curiosity why? If you ever had any warranty issue, you can take off the intake in 10min and flash the stock tune back.

I've read that when ford hooks up their equipment they can see if the computer has been reprogrammed regardless if the stock tune is there. My dealership is pretty anal, i've had previous experience with my service manager before with my last car.

Get the C&L with the no tune adapter.
This way when you decide later that you want or need the increased flexibility of a tuner you will already have an intake that can take advantage of this.

i hear the bbk cold air intake for these cars that requires no tune is pretty nice and adds 15-18hp to the wheels.

change the air box, re load the stock tune, disconnect the + battery side overnight while you sleep(it doesnt even have to be over night) then reconnect battery cable and take to dealer. The only history read will be a disconnected battery and the current stock tune. The dealer will have nothing to say.

C&L "racer" is my choice when the time comes.

for real. most dealers are so gay, and they can't void your warranty on anything. Ford has to have it investigated before the dealer can legally not honor your warranty anyway.

Funny thing, when i installed my 4.10 at the dealer he recomended i buy a C&L intake and tune with the car, and told me as long as the engine doesnt blow i am fine. he's a cool guy. they offer saleen, whipple, roush, hellion, STS and procharger systems dealer installed and most of them warrantied by the dealer to the extent of the warranty of the car. I love my guy.

seriously man, go to a different dealer. Yes it is true that now they can tell if your computer has ever been reflashed even if it is back on the stock tune. But a good dealership that is friendly to mods will still warranty the car. Just try it out and if your dealer doesnt honor the warranty then take it somewhere else that will! And if you are still worried about it then you can try disconecting the battery, turn the key with it disconnected, then reconnect it and it should reset the factory tune without them being able to tell. And also, if you get an intake that does not require a retune then that means that it is not changing the airflow enough to boost performance. So just go with the C&L, its a great intake. The JLT is also a good one, thats what I had on my car before the supercharger and I loved it. But the JLT is not as sturdy and well built as the C&L. (but it is cheaper in price).

Ok guys, I get it.

Say if it wasn't an option to get a tuner right now. What would be good in the meantime? What would happen if I went with one of the above and then added a tuner LATER?

In short, which one would be good right now.

I ordered the C&L racer today from brenspeed.
My dealer is cool, probally because I know him but
he says he has no problem with it but if ford would need to
check warranty work then their may be a problem. i'll just take it
off anyway

Really any of the CAI kits that don't require a reflash are ok. Adding a tuner later really won't change what CAI you got(the only reason some CAI kits require the reflash is due to they let more air flow to the MAF and the stock tune can't recognize the greater air flow), but will improve throttle lag greatly! You really can't go wrong with any of the CAI kits regardless of reflash or not, just that the ones that do require the reflash come in at about 10+/- RWHP more than those that don't require a reflash.

Could just go for the Ford CAI kit if you want, it's not the best tuner but will provide a good HP bump and ford will cover it under your warranty if you have them install it.

What you posted about the dealer being able to tell if the PCM has ever been flashed is not necessarily accurate..In fact after the vehicle is flashed back to stock, the dealer cannot prove the PCM was ever flashed providing the following steps are taken..Step 1 Disconnect the negative battery terminal, this resets the PCM .. Step 2 after 30 min. reconnect the battery terminal and put around 50 miles or so on the vehicle before taking it back to the dealer, this process erases any prior custom reflash to the PCM...Step 3.. if asked by the dealer about an incomplete PCM test cycle ? just simply tell them you disconnected the battery to prevent it from going dead while the car wasn't in use during a 2 week or more period and there's nothing they can do to prove otherwise...

Thats not true, we can not see at the dealer level if the processor has been reprogrammed. You need to find a new dealer if they are looking for a reason to void your warrenty. I am pretty sure that ford engineering can see it if they for some reason wanted to look at your PCM, they can access a hell of a lot more than we can at the dealer level.

Let's get this straight. If the CAI doesn't require a tune it's because it DOES NOT flow as well as the ones that do require a tune. Think about it. If you add enough air to make a difference, the PCM will need adjustments that the maf is not capable of. If you want a small modest gain, go for it. If you want the most out of a CAI go with one that requires a tune. This has been verified time and time again by my friends at Diablosport. Kevin MacDonald (Diablosport) verified this just last weekend at Bradenton while we were looking at the CAI on a Shelby Hertz Mustang which is a Steeda/Ford Racing CAI and does require a tune.

CAI with no tune required, seems like a waste of time and money. Just buy a a tuner and a good cai so you least tell a differance in performance. I had a C&L before i install the blower, it was great!. Members of my Stang club have Granatelli's and love them as well. As for the warranty issue, it's been allready said... load up stock tune etc. etc. is very true. Find another dealer and don't let them push you around. I went in for a battery failure, popped the hood... service writter saw the blower...automatically said they weren't going to touch it... I said.... yes you are..lol....they can't void the whole car. I knew it, they knew it.

Anyway they replaced the battery under warranty been in since then i've had other issues fixed, window motor,seat lever etc.

Sorry for long post, but Dealers really erk me
