Hi,

I am hoping to be a new member of the 5.0 world. I sold my 1996 gt this spring and the itch has finally got to me and I am activaly looking for another mustang.

I have narrowed down my search to three cars locally that are not rediculously over priced and wondering what others thoughts are.

First is a black 1987 T-top car I can get into for 3500 has a fresh engine and tranny but the body is starting to deteriate from sitting through the winters.

Second is a 1992 Calypso green Notch I got him down to 3750 from 4500, car is in really nice shape inside and the body is straight besides having 1 piece of missing trim and the front bumper cover needs to be painted.

Third is a 1990 GT I can also get into this for 3500 but I am not a fan of the color scheme on the car the outside is allright with Light blue and gray skirts but the inside is supposed to be White lether I think either way it hasn't aged well.

Just looking for tips on what all to check over before I purchase and opinions on which to buy.

Look for rust in the usual spots. Lift the trunk mat, and look for signs of damage or rust, especially by the rear frame rails. Check the front strut towers and frame rails for rust or damage too. I have seen some GT's that looked nice, but behind the plastic ground effects was all rotten.

I would carefully inspect all 3 very closely, and pick the most solid one of the three. Which, from your description, sounds like the calypso notch. Good luck.

I want to measure mine. It doesn't look that tall.

avoid the 87. a motor/tranny is dirt cheap compared to body work
the notch sounds like the better deal

Based on your descriptions the 92 Notch would be my choice.

I'd say definitely the notch based off your description. You should really try to get some pics on here if you can. Either way, make sure you give those cars a really good inspection. Check for rust in all the usual places, check the torque boxes for cracking and warping, check everything basically. Don't rush into the car without knowing what you have first. If you don't plan on changing/modifying the motor and tranny for a while make sure they are in good running condition. Check for poorly/incorrectly installed mods, as it is rare to find a V8 fox that has not been modified in some way. Good Luck and GET SOME PICS UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The blue GT does not have whit leather in it. That is the standard grey tweed interior.
The notch seems to be the better choice but need more pics of it. Looks like rust bubling up behind the front passenger tire? Could just be the picture.
