opinions on short shifters

first of all i usually stay in the saloon or rather the day care center as its now called but ive recently become interested in the Steeda Tri-ax short shifter kit. im sure this is a re-post and im sorry but id like to hear some opinions on this shifter and also suggestions of ones that may be better?

Pro 5.0 shifter with the medium handle is what I have and I love it. Firm, smooth, clicks on every shift and have never missed!

Others will swear by the MGW, but I don't like how their handles are only for their shifters. I've yet to try one, but everyone says they are great.

I don't like the Steeda shifter or the UPR for the record.

Bah, what interests you? Everyone is biased about their shifters. For example, I'm going to tell you to get an MGW. I love it.

hmmm based on the first thread you linked the MGW seems to get more votes. i know most people havent tried both but maybe if you guys could list the things you like about your shifters that would help?

Why I favor the Pro 5.0:
--can swap handles out with others on the market (vice MGW)
--had them in every Fox body I had and never had trouble (9 years of driving/racing) whereas MGW is relatively new
--Don't particularly like Steeda's business practices at times, so I support one of the little guys and have never had problems in business dealings

hmm now another question... is it worth it to do this before say something like a cold air intake or gears? or would my money be better spent on those things?

Depends what you are looking for?

Short throw makes driving much more fun and easy and will run you like $200 and it's deff a DIY project.

CAI will run you like $250 and you probably won't get the desired results from JUST a CAI.

Gears will run you ~$600 installed and will probably be the most fun thing you do to your car...but it's still 3x as expensive as gears...

If you have the cash, play!

Gears Great Seat of the Pants improvement in the car's acceleration.
Shifter is a good 1st mod of any vehicle and it's something you'll enjoy everytime you drive.

A shifter would be one of your cheaper mods to do vice gears which will most likely cost a good amount to install unless you do it yourself. A Catback and catted X will be another more expensive mod. (Unless you go O/R X or H). A CAI will be around $150-$200. A shifter will run you $100-$200 depending on which one you buy. You'll get a shifter sooner or later. Might as well get one now. I love my MGW. They no longer make the blue or red handle. They now make an orange handle which is suppose to be the best of both worlds from the red and blue handle MGW. I got the blue handle awhile back and love it. Super short shifts. Try out afew on other people's cars and see which you like best. Beats the heck out of the stocker junk.

if you ever get a CAI, you're better off getting one that looks good, bc performance wise you won't notice a difference, at least not enough to justify $200+

Yea, everyone jumps on the CAI wagon because it's just a common thing thrown around on EVERY car. However, you arent going to get much out of it on a stock engine. Now when you blow it, maybe go to the CAI.

yeah i only have about 200 bucks to spend so i'll probably go with the shifter and so far the MGW appears to be the favorite. thanks a bunch and if you have any more suggestions/tips lemme know

Very nice piece. Strong, and quiet.

Plus it looks cool.

George used to make a Red/Blue handle. but has made the Orange now to combine the best of both...
