I've heard a few ideas that 30 psi was too much and it would bald the middle of the tire. I dropped it down to about 25-26 psi and it seems to grab better. But on the highway sometimes I go a little too fast so I don't know if i need more pressure. So basically what is the optimal pressure for street driving and highway speeds.
Thanks
Dan

Nitto Drag Radials are a soft tire. Air pressure will make a big difference in both it's performance and wear, much more than with regular tires. I found 18-20psi I good for the street, including highway, and it still wears more in the middle.

I run 26 psi on the street with my 90GT hatchback and they seem to be wearing pretty good so far. 275/40R17s on 9" Cobra Rs.

I ran 18 on the streets and 12 at the track. No matter what i did they wore quicker in the middle then the outsides.

I think gt90stang is the only one so far that's put everything need in his post. Your optimum tire pressure is going to vary depending on your rims size, tire size, and weight of the vehicle. I recommend you post those sizes (at least) then check the responses you get.

Edit: Ultimately you want the foot print of the tire to be flat to the pavement. A narrow wheel usually requires a little more pressure to make that happen than a wider one with the same size tire on it. Too much pressure and you put the center of the tire to the road and it begins to lift up on the inside and outside edges.

No more than 25psi Dan. Trust me, not that I know anything besides the fact im on my 2nd set Too much pressure and it wears the middle out faster.

Hi all,

Some of us like to carve corners also, so you have to take that into account as well.
