Sometime this month i'll be purchasing black summit racing seats for my tan interior. My main concern is the how the rear seat will look being tan while the front is black, especially with the top down!. I really don't want to put in a rear seat delete since I do occassionally have people sit back there. Would a vinyl dye or paint work on leather seats? And would it even hold up?

Subscribing! I have this exact same dilemma.

You could look into trying to find a set of used 94-up 'vert rear black leather seats, but they seem to be hard to find since most guys who sell them are for coupes that have the seat delete done. I wouldn't mind having a seat delete with a couple of 12s' mounted there instead, but like you I do have passengers back there occasionally so thats not an option. Are you keeping the console and carpet tan? If so I'm really curious to see what it would look like with black seats and top down. I'm also curious as to how well the tan summit seats would match the tan interior. As for dye, I doubt the leather will take the dye very well, but maybe someone who has tried it might have more insight. Whatever you decide to do, please post pics!!! :SNSign:

...i dont think black front seats with a tan rear seat would look good at all it would look like you are trying to build a car with spare parts...i dont think dye will work on leather if it did hold i wouldn't want to be a passenger back there on a hot day and sweat lol i would be worried. if you want black front seats you need to look for a rear seat as well IMO

I didnt like it in the coupe.

I have had folks sit on my RSD - it wasnt that bad, reportedly. :D

Does anyone make an economical skin/upholstery kit for your rear seats?

i think im gonna try to find someone locally to re-cover the rear seats in vinyl/simulated leather. If thats too expensive I guess i'll just have to do the rear seat delete.

I thought of the same thing. At least my seats are already black, but they are cloth. It won't match, but I don't have a vert, and my windows are dark. So I think I'll end up risking it until I can find a deal on a rear black leather seat used.

I switched to black front seats and HATED the way the rear tan seat looked, especially with the top down. I rarely have anyone ride in the back anyway, so I made a RSD. Since that time I've had someone (a small girl who doesn't weigh too much) occassionally sit in the back on the RSD. She doesn't think it's too bad, especially for just short rides. Plus it looks great, especially with the top down! (I even custom added the riding horse emblem directly onto the back of the delete)

Here, that's against the law, and he also asked for option OTHER than a RSD. But, got any pics? :D

Why is it against the law? It's not here. Maybe because of seat belt laws you mean? We don't have seat belt laws for passengers in the rear.

And I know he asked for options other than an RSD, but I first gave him feedback that I didn't like the rear tan seat look at all, then just explained what I did myself. So I guess I only gave him half of what he wanted.

But nonetheless, here's a picture.

Looks awesome! Mount a nitrous bottle in the middle, and you are good to go. :nice:

Seatbelt laws are getting VERY strict here in MO. And that's not even assuming anthing with the "a small girl that doesn't weigh much" part of your comment. LOL

If she's under the age of 8 here, she has to be a monster of a kid to get out of the booster seat law. My daughter is TALL and skinny. She still lacks like 4" in height and around 50lbs or so to get out of a booster seat. She was happy to hear her 8th b-day had an extra perk. :rlaugh:

HAHA! By small girl I meant a 21 year old who is 5'2 and weighs like 100lbs! I can definitely understand why that comment would be taken other ways though lol.

As for the nitrous bottle mounting, I've thought about it! I have a nitrous kit about to go in but I thought that the bottle had to have a firewall between it and the cabin for track usage?

Guess it depends on your track. One of my friend's has his sitting behind his seat. Not mounted to anything. He just reaches back, turns it on. LOL

You could buy a plastic tool box, and cut the bottom out, then sit it over the bottle. That would be funny.

Oh, and yeah, guess the inner dad in me is coming out. I immediately thought of my daughter when you posted that. I will have a back seat for years to come. :D
