Original Miles?

How do people know how many miles are really on a foxbody? Since the odometer rolls over it seems to me that there is no way to know how many hundred thousand miles have been on it. Mine just rolled over not to long ago and I could run it back up to 50,000 and say it only has that many miles on it and people would believe it but in reality it most likely has 200,000 on it. I don't know how any fox can be around and not have over 100,000 on it. Most sn95s all have over 100,000 now.

I put a new cluster in mine and rolled it back to zero but I wrote down the original mileage on a card and paper clipped it to the title.

most car registrations and carfax will show the mileage reported to the DMV over the years. In addition, a good way to judge the miles is to look at the interior especally the brake and clutch pedals for wear. Often guys overlook that when they are trying to say a car has 50k miles when it had 250k. If the car has the original motor, you can do a compression/leak down test. Another thing is to send off the oil for analysis. That will tell you alot about the condition of the engine and how much the bearings and other materials are worn.

I bought my 90 4 years ago with 41k original miles. The title and carfax history confirmed it,. It has about 44k miles on it now.

I agree with Mike. For the purpose of purchasing a car a 250k car just won't present itself as well as a 50k mile car.

If it's for your own personal records, well....I mean I guess if you just really want to keep track of it then go ahead, but if you were going to sell the car then a disclosure of how many miles it has is just good etiquette.

My car has over 250k miles on the frame, but everything except paint is new. Insurance doesn't value my car any more than its 250k mile twin regardless of what I've done to it.

Unless you buy specialty insurance that is the case with almost all "regular" insurance companies i.e. Haggerty vs All State etc.

Op-Like everyone stated above you can always tell the differences between the two unless someone "restored" the car to present itself well. These cars will rarely have low/easy mileage. That I completely agree with. Those are hard to find(and usually bring a good price).

I recently bought an 86 GT with 53000 showing. I believe that it is 153000 because the guy I bought it from said it had around 50000 on it when he bought it. Compression is around 140 per cylinder and still pulls like a freight train .

I got mine with just under 50k miles. I relied on the Carfax and overall condition of the car.

I got my 90 with 22 miles on the odometer. It now says 53k miles and I know it's original miles since I drove them. It really is the best way to be sure Of course some dufus at the Ford dealership entered the mileage into their computer logs as 147k instead of 47k some years back when I brought it in for something or other, and so that shows up on Carfox, etc. There's probably some way to get that fixed but since I'm not selling anytime soon I guess I'll worry about that later.

Bought mine from my grandpa in 09 with 55k miles on it. He ordered it from the factory so in my case I know the mileage is correct. Pretty hard to "prove" though.

My 93 just hit 27k original miles...bought from original owners daughter as he passed away. Carfax and condition of car confirm it. Car was garage kept and babied entire life..was also 100 percent stock when i got it....even had dealer ford cassette tapes in center arm rest...black 5 speed convertible...took me 3 years to find car i wanted...

I got mine with 253 miles on it, which is the distance between the DSO dealer and the one I bought it from....

Resto'd it at 250 some odd thousand, lol

I bought mine with 40-something K miles back in 1997. You could tell it was original miles just due to the condition. I'm the second owner of the car.

And, since the car sits more than drives, it only has 96K miles on it. By comparison, my daily driver has 170K miles on it...and still gives a smoother ride

I bought the red car with just a little over 3/4 of a bagillion miles on it. The condition of the car confirmed it, and the title had the appropriate box ck'd.
